It is common to express caliber in imperial measurements, but not required. Last edited by EagleDriver; March 18th, 2011 at 11:33.. |

First off. No, it is not a measure of a bullets diameter. It is in fact a measure of either the lands or grooves (depending on the convention of that country or area or manufacturer) of the rifling of a barrel. The use of Caliber as a descriptor expressed in MM is a trend and has allowed the word to be interchangeable with diameter (again relative to the lands or grooves) which is acceptable but technically incorrect. You also fail to understand the physics of firearms and how rifling works and you demonstrate this by comparing a modern firearms barrel to that of a smooth bore airsoft inner barrel. I highly suggest you hit your local library and read a little bit about what actually happens as a bullet is squeezed through the barrel. Also I've now proved my point three times and I feel that this is getting off topic. I wish a company would re-release the spectre M4. I loved it when I first saw it in a SOF rag as a kid but the FTC version was never avaliable round here. Cheers. |

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/caliber
Definition of CALIBER 1 a : degree of mental capacity or moral quality b : degree of excellence or importance 2 a : the diameter of a bullet or other projectile b : the diameter of a bore of a gun usually expressed in hundredths or thousandths of an inch and typically written as a decimal fraction <.32 caliber> 3 : the diameter of a round or cylindrical body; especially : the internal diameter of a hollow cylinder So I am assuming Webster's dictionary is wrong here too? Then you will love these - even though it's Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9_mm_caliber http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...rms_by_calibre The reason that a Desert Eagle in .50 will not properly fire a .45 ACP is that the cartridge is rimless, so the headspace is at the front of the chamber. Without proper fitment of a rimless cartridge it is possible that the firing pin could not even strike the primer with enough force to ignite it. A rimmed cartridge has headspace at the rear, which is why you can fire a .22 short out of a .22 long rifle weapon. Thermodynamics makes a bullet and cartridge expand. The expanded cartridge seals the rear of the chamber forcing all of the gases to expel to the front. The bullet is also heated and expanded while traveling through the barrel. If they were the same diameter it would become stuck, and the gases would pass by via the rifling. But I think I just have to stop the conversation here. You have no understanding of firearms and it seems that there is no educating you. Last edited by EagleDriver; March 29th, 2011 at 15:33.. |

Another thing is that magazines wouldn't be too hard to find as the real one uses FN FAL magazines already.

No you can't educate me, but maybe you can educate yourself. I wish to apologize for this thread derailment and I ask that if Eagle Driver has any further need to discuss this he do so with me in PM and not clutter up this thread with massive pictures in an attempt to insult me. As for the thread.. What is up with the barrel on that LWRC? Is that for better heat dissipation or jjust for sho? It is pretty damn strange. |

if by strange you mean awesome. then yes its strange. and i'm awesome.
if i remember the article correctly they did it to increase the surface area of the barrel for heat dispersal.
