Could be stating the obvious. But the British adopted the Czech designed weapon as their squad automatic weapon in the early thirties, hence the similarities.

The basic Star Wars blaster rifle was built on the Sterling submachine gun.

The Sterling is quite different from the FG42 :P
Many WW2 guns were transformed for video games. Thompson -> Alien Pulse rifle, the starwars blasters, the MG34 in another movie I forgot the title, etc.

The mg34 was also the stormtrooper rifle in StarWars. Hans Solo used a modified C96 for his blaster.
The 'Smart gun' (Big shoulder mounted MG in Aliens) was a modified MG42. |
