Airsoft in Winter

Im definitely with Aqua on this one, I personally use pink gas as you can buy it by the pound at certain retailers as it's cheaper. Buy in bulk and stock up for the winter!

When playing in colder weather (below -10c), you should look into buying a brown-gas and beige-gas gun. These gas (pistols) are the same as any other green gas gun, they just happen to have modified internals meant for the brown and beige gas. However most airsoft retailers here don't sell these gasses, so you'll need to go to Canadian Tire and Wholesale Sports to pick up the bags of beige gas.

Beige gas, unlike green gas, comes in a soft polymer container that has a fill nozzle on one end. The bags look like over-inflated sandwich bags and that are in their respective colors, beige and brown. While the gas is combustible, it takes a lot of heat to ignite, so don't worry about these bags of gas blowing up when you keep them in your trunk.

Similarly, there is also pink gas which is available at some retailers. This is a relatively new propellant and is often used in JG AEG rifles which is injected directly into the magazines. This gas not only coats each bb, but also adds a slightly pink 'vapor trail' behind each bb that you have coated. Typically these will be used throughout Ontario as the gas of choice. Pink Gas also is the standard gas used at the Urotsuki game held each year in Nunavut which brings an estimated 2,200 players

One final gas you could use with your pistol in winter will be Mauve Gas. This has very similar properties to those of helium, which allows the bbs to go even further. This is, while not the easiest to find, relatively common and can be purchased from the user "Kusai Neko" here on the forums. It works with all AEG's in lieu of battery power and is contained in re-fillable charger 'sticks' which are the same shape as batteries. You might consider picking up some of these if you are worried about playing in winter.

Hey DPairsoft, no need to leave. It's great to find people of all ages have an interest in this sport. Some of us here do treat individuals of all ages equally. It's just that people become concerned for your safety. Not everyone that you will play with that's your age is mature enough to understand not to shoot others at point-blank range, etc and when parents get involved usually the mother will freak out and then airsoft is in hot water. We just want to protect the sport and everyone that plays it, so when your a bit older you can enjoy it too.

all right, I'm still confused. I mean, when I play airsoft it's usually pretty warm down here in Georgia and people feel hits, so they scream. I've only really started to get into more sophisticated airsoft rifles just this past year(AEG's etc).

I guess what I'm asking is, how is airsoft fun, if you don't feel the shots? -in the winter. I guess what kind of bums me out is that you don't really know when you've been hit. My whole suggestion has been to play only headshots, since we play with full paintball masks. It bugs me that you could be 200 feet away and not really feel a shot. I know it kind of sounds silly that I want to be playing at very long ranges because I think that's what makes airsoft what it is, but I mean why not play something like paintball? Or make airsoft bb's 6cm in diameter.

Trust me, you hear the shot, you feel it more often than notn either...

Last game I was wearing 5 or so layers + winter whites, I was still feeling hits through it.

Or just use a few pounds of pink gas and you'll be fine, plus you'll KNOW that your enemy will be feeling the hits.

Wear long johns, that's what I do. My winter loadout is long johns, both shirt and pants, an olive t-shirt, my regular BDU, and a German army snowsuit from Flecktarn.co.uk, It's not designed to keep you warm, but that coupled with the other layers keeps you warm and you'll still feel the BBs. As for your gun, when I play in the winter, I take it back inside after each game and strip it down and clean it off as best I can.

hell I live in Atlanta, Georgia. It was warm yesterday.

Anyway, what if you are wearing a hoody and there is a pocket of air where the bb hit's?
or what if you're wearing a lot of baggy clothes? will we still be able to know we got hit, without it being a tap on the shoulder, from 200ft? I guess what I'm saying is I wish that getting hit was something that you would want to try and avoid not just have to be self-conscious about not feeling a hit.

Listen kid, this is airsoft. It's about truth and honesty when you play. You could be like a typical paintballer and not call your hits simply because it doesn't leave a big ugly pink splat.

If you have such a problem with not calling your hits, then don't play our game. Stay with paintball and let us enjoy our game which is based on honesty. If you don't feel your hit, fine, you'll get shot again and again. If you think that you wouldn't be wanting to call your hits because you didn't feel them, then fine, go away and play some paintball with other speedball fudge-packers, we certainly won't miss you.

If you can not deal with honor, then go away. I'm not saying that as a prick, I'm saying that as a responsible airsoft player. We don't want you if you plan to cheat. If you do not see the fun in this game, then why are you here?
