my post was in no way an attack on you personally so just drop it, I was simply agreeing that sometime the noobs come in all naive with their questions and they take the initial flaming that they deserve for their laziness to search for their own info and as soon as a "senior" member agrees with them, they start firing back. you can take that to mean whatever you want it to mean.

There shouldnt need to be initial flaming in the first place.
Some people do try to research, ASC is most likly the first place they find. Although they come arms open and mouth wide expecting a spoon feeding, they dont deserve flaming, you let them know the etiquette. When they persist, then you be assertive, after that, let them be dog meat. I find however its the same few people doing it all the time. Honestly if I joined a website for the first time and was greeted with " You are under age! hate hate hate flame flame flame" I would wonder what the hell is wrong with the community and be lippy too. Understood your comments were not meant as any form of attack. I agree with your last statement though, however this is the internet, what can do? Alot actually, but my comment was meant to be taken as a rhetorical question.

The issue I have with the noob's lazyness is that there are literally dozens of threads asking the same questions, and they all feel the need to post it in one of my favourite sections, the gun section. if only there was a seperate section where all noobie and introduction related threads had to go that would be alot sweeter.
I am guilty of flaming but it's not that I dont want the sport to grow and prosper but there is only so much noobishness one can take, I've only been in airsoft and on this forum for a short time now, but I have NEVER started one of these "what do you think about this gun?" threads because I know how to use the search function+google and I am not a genius by any stretch of the imagination |

Oh Im more than guilty of flaming, but I prefer to call it assertive rectal fingering. Now that I think about it, today Im 1 and 1, 1 flaming/mocking 1 attempt at helping someone new. Why am I still here? I should have been in bed hours ago.
Aqua, come tuck me in wherever you are.

Some people forget that occasionally people are new to computers and forums as well as airsoft. Learning the two together can be daunting.
When I got on here, I'd never used forums before and didn't know my way around to find the info needed. That's changed now but it took awhile. Let's not flame them for not knowing, let's flame them for thinking there's such a thing as a mature 16-year-old. I'm 32 and I wouldn't trust me with an airsoft gun.

I know how you feel jet. I've been around and handling REAL firearms since i was 5 years old, shooting activley since i was six, and hunting since twelve.
again with real guns and NO incidents. Whereas a 20 year old playin around and showin off to his buddies with his dads pistol shoots his dumb self or someone else. Back to tokyos point, age has nothing to do with maturity. and anyone who was to come up an tell me i was not mature would get knocked out frankly. I also belive any one wishing to buy an airsoft gun should be required to take a firearms saftey course and obtain their PAL. including clear soft and pellet guns |

So, your telling me there are NO 16 year olds who are responsible ON EARTH? Wow, thats like telling me earth is the only planet to bear life in the entire universe.
I handle real guns as well, I hunt if that makes everyone feel better about my saftey. |

No one is questioning your safety, we are simply saying that it is legal issues that we allow 18 and over to play. If a 16 year old got hurt at a game then the field owner is responsible. If an 18 year old got hurt he is legally an adult and can be held for his own actions. This is what I understand the 18+ rule to be so if anyone wants to make corrections to my statement please do so.

Yes true, I dont play on fields though. Ive only got as far as a friends farm, shooting up each other in bales of hay.

We're not saying there are no responsible 16 year olds. We're saying that generally speaking, age is the best indicator of maturity. Not the perfect indicator, but nothing else really comes close. We believe that at the very least, being 18+ means that you're legally liable for your own actions and more inclined to be responsible. Or at least, prosecutable in the event of stupidity.
The fact that you're arguing with us only serves to prove the point. With maturity comes an acceptance that life is not about making exceptions for you. Saying that you're mature because you say so doesn't exactly prove anything to us. As for having handled real guns and hunted, so what? Lots of people have, doesn't mean they're mature. You might in fact be mature enough to not do something incredibly stupid with airsoft guns. There is no real way for us to know, so we error on the side of caution. Don't take it personally. In all honesty, I'd recommend visiting a game and getting to know the people there, instead of trying to set up your own barnyard war right off the bat. Leave your dad at home, bring your mom.

Er...Im not arguing at all that 18yrs. is the age of liability
Edit: And for the rest, There is no way to prove your mature on the internet. Arguing with people on the net is like arguing with a toaster. Edit: There are no games in smalltown Carlyle. The only person to have an airsoft gun would be me. Last edited by Jet; April 10th, 2008 at 15:30.. |
