I think Aluminum bb,s would be hard on the hopup rubber and the inner barrel aswell in an AEG,, would it not?. Metal on Metal ,vs, Plastic on Metal.

i think there is less strain on the internals if you were shooting metal BBs with a GBB pistol rather than an AEG. check out stalker's home defense G19! |

Umm, that'd be another guy's home defence KSC G19. Lol, forget his name, but that's another guy's how has his loaded with 0.88g steel balls for home defence (he's in the US mind you).
Unless you are referring just to my use of heavy BBs in my Glocks (and now my KSC MK23 with freshly installed Airsoft Surgeon 380 upgrade kit ) then that would be me. 0.28g minimum, used all the way up to 0.43g for a few outdoor games. |

I can see aluminum losing more dirt as it vibrates down the barrel, but i doubt plastic bbs deform when they hit the hopup rubber, and since they're the same weight; the aluminum bb isn't hitting with more force. Infact the aluminum BBs are more likely smoother on the outside than plastic bbs so they may actually be easier on your hopup rubber.
Now it's possible that they could wear away at the part of your barrel opposite to your hopup rubber, but it would take ALOT of ammo... |

It's the hop up rubber that deformed and gets shoved out of the way when a BB passes. The BB doesn't deform in the barrel no matter what. Regarding the inner barrel, yes, I can see an aluminum BB wearing off any coating faster, but if one was dumb enough to buy a tightbore with a coating in the first place..................

also aluminum is softer than brass. you are more likely to get a fine buildup of aluminum in the berral over time, then wearing away the inside of the berral.
so unless you never clean your berral more then twice a year, i wouldnt be too worried.
