Was told to stop playing with children's toys lol... Not like airsoft is anything unknown though since it's common enough for asians at least.

The pitch need to be improved,
"I found a bunch of really cool honest guys that will watch my back in adverse conditions in the face of an aggressive enemy. I will learn new skills and meet new people from across Canada and participate in a dynamic and growing community of socially diverse and still like minded people."

Stepped into an organized team seven years ago, which I now run. My girlfriend was supportive and married me a short time later; but is sometimes concerned about the cost. She comes out and takes pictures as she is a photographer, and all of our teams wives hang out together, so she has made a lot of friends.

My family supports me, my old man even played a few times when he visited. Everytime I show my guns and gear to my friends they are floored, and think its the coolest thing ever.

While my father's okay with the idea of airsoft, viewing it like paintball, my mother is totally against it and somehow believes airsoft is like a "gateway drug" to using real firearms, due to the way airsoft guns are made to be realistic-looking replicas of the real firearms.

She's even thinking of taking all my airsoft away...

In the old days if you wanted to get a rise out of your counterpart you told them how much it cost.
"You spent $700.00 on a toy gun! Are you outta your fkn mind! " after that you won your aegs at game raffles. "Yeah i was like wow that's my number. Awesome." What she didn't hear was " 1raffle ticket $700. # of tickets sold 1."
I almost died laughing. That is gold. Maybe that's how I will break it to the woman that I have at least 3 other guns she doesn't know about.

She seems to let me have my fun but does raise the concern every so often that I am probably spending my money unwisely. But I think she doesn't mind it as much since my other hobby/profession is hanging out with hot girls and then going home to look at them for a few more hours. So in comparison, hanging out with a bunch of dudes in some field in the middle of nowhere all day is the lesser of two evils.

Nobody gives a crap on how i would spend my money.

Started doing this as physio.. which got the seal of approval from my retired RN mother. Dad at the time understood fine.. he had a fine history of big boys toys. I just regret that i wasn't able to bring him out to a game.

The people at work weren't impressed .. but not to be surprised since i'm the lone redneck in a sea of social service socialist types. "Fight club with bb guns, eww!".

Girlfriend/SO/SWMBO? Feggedaboutit. Unless you are lucky, having one of those will generally preclude heavy involvement in man-sports. If you are unlucky, you will get one that prioritizes her Imelda Marcos shoe collection, over any luxuries that you may have beyond an occasional 6-pack. I like life just too much for that, so far.

Every man should have a hobby/sport for comraderie, fitness, stress release, and friendship. As long as you don't go crazy, then airsoft can be quite affordable. Hockey, snowboarding, golf, etc, can all be very expensive. I think a big difference is social acceptance; airsoft can often be looked down on, where is no one would question hockey, golf, or the time and money invested. So the big question is; "who gives a shit?". Do the people closest in your life understand what airsoft truly is, have they viewed the sports growth internationally, and do they understand the exact dynamics? When explaining it to someone I tend to show videos, and break it down into its most basic concepts. Do you play safe, responsibly, and observe all the laws? If the answer is yes, then the people you know whom judge you or the sport negatively obviously need some education.

I know my wife understood the cost a lot more when she saw what exactly we did, and what I was up against on the field.

Lol. People don't expect me to be into this kind of stuff being a "metrosexual" and timid Asian.

Just like in the TV show Parks and Rec; "I am what you might call a redneck".

I didn't realise I had to tell people about Airsoft like I'm coming out of the closet. Airsoft is something I do, I don't hve to tell them about playing hockey or soccer why would it be any different?

That being said everyone that asks about it thinks its amazing.

Gf reaction to airsoft guns.... Make a cabinet so they can be exposed in the living room.... Now complains that there are still some bear walls in the house that could be used to hang guns....

Also, to be fair the only people I have ever met who have a problem with airsoft are usually real steel elitists who think their Sig P226 is all the qualification they need to pass negative judgement on airsoft. They've never come out to a game, which I describe as a more interactive version of Call of Duty with way better graphics and the ability to punch griefers and hackers (cheaters) in the face that eliminates the chubby, out-of-shape fatasses. I'd love to see them hit something other than a paper target while being shot at. Without actually trying it and having experience at a game, I dismiss their opinion outright. I don't know a single person who has played airsoft who wasn't absolutely in love with it after their first firefight.

Hey, anything that gets people out and away from their fucking Xbox or whatever.

I catch more flack from my friends that I don't own a TV than I do about airsoft. I had one buddy t-off on me about the cost until I asked him how much he spent on his TVs and cable.
