Where are they shipping from? I may prefer to have it drop shipped or picked up from the warehouse if it's coming from Edmonton. Shipping a 1700+ Model pelican case is gonna cost >30-40 dollars Canada post

I have no clue how much a pelican case is worth, but depending of the price, I might be interested.

Example: P&D in Edmonton sells Pelican 1700 w/ foam for $269.00 If that price is not even achievable....I'm not interested. |

Same as everyone... pending price, maybe. But I'm a cheapass, so that will probably be too expensive... or will it?

probably too expensive. OH FYI, if you heard of Pelican 1700 for much cheaper than I list, I suggest you ask them to doubt check that price. Apparently Pelican confuse a lot of distributor with their pricing as they had two books marked retail price. (one of them is retailer purchase price) As a consequence, a lot of seller were losing money when they tried to sell way below their own purchasing price.

I think a fair target would be <200 shipped with foam, but I doubt that's happening

I paid $269 for my 1700. Back in May I was told that if I ordered 5 cases the price would drop to $255. This was from a Toronto reseller.
I don't know what the margin is on these cases but even at x30 I doubt $200 is achievable. |

I got my case for below MSRP because either
1) the dealer really likes me 2) the dealer made a mistake and sold me the case at HIS cost Mind you at the time I bought my case their were preferred dealers and "regular" dealers. I paid <180 dollars for case w/ foam. Probably not going to happen again. |

there's tops 10$ worth of foam and labor involved with a precision cut slab of foam. I'm sure if you did it by hand you can do it with a sawzall if you got good enough.. it' s not hard to cut with box cutters. And that's the shit that make the cases float as well as keep your stuff tightly held but cushioned. The open cell mushy standard foam is even cheaper. I was pricing some out from u-line before I discovered puzzlemat was the same polyetheline foam used in those high end cases :P What's the material used in the case itself? abs? Not a terribly expensive material either.. probably 5-10$ worth of hardware for hinges and wheels/latches. and <1$ for that o ring that seals it water tight. One of those cases is probably made for less than 50 bucks... for sure made for less than 100. It's just because pelican is the only one reputed to be the best and they have a very specific specialty market. |
