I have it on good authority that this was already tried at the Edmonton training site. There are a small group of CF airsofters that are approved to use the training facility to play. When we talked to them, they were interested in holding regular games there and inviting civi's to the facility. Last I heard it was a big resounding no. I'll talk to my buddy who's stationed up there so I can find out who they are. Either way, I'm pulling for ya. Maybe you just need a better presentation to your CO than they had.

Getting the support of a section co etc or higher up officer would help you as well

Chances of that are slim but It would do a great deal to help.

I'll look up that canforgen when I get to work but I think I read it as well. I'll speak with our PSP come the new year as well.

Awesome if you can pull this off, best of luck. If you are successful I would be interested in doing the same @ CFB Kingston.

I think getting the club/recognized as a sport would be our first hurdle

I'll bet full face protection will be mandatory. As they also pay for our dental work. Loosing a tooth to the sport would hurt us.

This has been tried at least once before in Edmonton, and damn it we will try again. Other than the obvious issues with liability, the other big hurtle which has been brought to my attention is security clearance for civies. That was the other big reason that the previous attempts have failed. This may be a issues that we simple won't be able to get around. But I am still hopeful, like I have said I am waiting on my precedence in Borden. They have a paintball field in a training area and civies are allowed.

I can see how eager people are to support in this and see a good result. Just remember this is going to take some time, alot of time. The better prepared we are when we go forward the better. In the slim chance this does get approved it will still take longer after that, these ranges are booked months in advance if not more than a year.

Depends on what kind of training is being conducted around that time.

I have gotten both SCV and KH with a month's notice for Combat FA.

Implement Bio. Or black. depending on the terrain.

Definetly easier than cleaning up paint. even if you have a team of guys sweep/vacuum the cqb areas after.

Outdoors you'd never notice it

Training areas ie "the field" are not restricted areas in terms of security clearance, as they are not sensitive areas. I hesitate to comment without the full story, but being turned down because of "security reasons" sounds like someone who was lazy inventing a reason to say no.

There is however a very real issue with liability in terms of insurance for civilian plated vehicles. Here in Kingston the only time civilian pattern vehicles are allowed onto the trg area is when they are rentals driven by CF/DND/GoC pers for official business.

Look at security this way. In most of the spots I've been at for training that were a base or detachment there were things in the field that you did not want people getting into. Range shacks or whatever.

So the first times there are a bunch of folks on the property they're supervised by CF members. But what about down the road when some of the Civi's come back on their own since they are now familiar with the lie of the land?

Yeah, that's the CANFORGEN. I did actually ask about this to my CO and was in fact able to get paintball approved as a unit activity, taking everyone to TNT Paintball here in Victoria instead of going to work every six months or so.

A navy crew playing paintball looked like this, if you're wondering: HMCS Protecteur @ TNT Paintball, November 19th, 2010 - YouTube

Like a bunch of retards trying to hump a doorknob.

Anyway, as I was saying section 5 pretty much describes extreme sports as being stuff that involves speed, height, physical exertion and specialized equipment. That's vague, but on CO approval should involve things like paintball and airsoft.

And it's certainly not on the list of exceptions listed in section 7.

Well Two guys and myself are heavy players. all met each other after playing airsoft and were all in the same Sqn. There's plenty out there. just hard to find.

Stick a flyer up on base with an email and see how many people contact you.
