If it was just a random lemon you got, it isn't representative of every JG.
Reasoning? The gun feels like a water gun with an mechbox in it. I love JG stuff just not their mp5. W/e doesn't matter to me.....buy the JG.....see how you feel when you get it...........

I have the Mp5-A4 with me now and it doesn't feel like a water gun with a mechbox. Slight exaggeration on your part. If you are a full metal lover then I can see why someone wouldn't be impressed but for a mostly plastic it has good weight to it.

Well, bluntly speaking, if I had many bills and to spend on a full metal and were on the most obese budget on earth I'd be glad to call a JG a watergun with a mechbox too .
@miserlou: I've contacted Optix and he's given me his contact info already. Just need to find time to meet up with finals coming up in a week .

There's my JG MP5 review from almost 3 years ago.

JG MP5-J Review

Pay close attention to post #49 on the second page. That describes what I did trying to kill this gun and couldn't.

Here we are a year and a half after Post #49, and amost 3 years after the initial review. The gun is still going strong on the stock JG internals, still shoots a consistent 345-355 fps on 0.2g, and is still incredibly accurate at ranges such a short barrel shouldn't be able to hit that accurately. Note the gearbox, spring guide, cutoff lever and gears were replaced, but everything else is stock in terms of the compression parts, and it's still one of the most awesome little AEGs I've ever had the pleasure of owning. I've gamed it myself in summer, winter, rain, etc, I've loaned it to others, and everyone who's used it absolutely loves it. Those internals are 3 years old, have seem probably close to 100k rounds, and are still going strong.

All that being said though, JG is still a Chinese brand. In the last couple of years, JG have made enormous strides ahead in quality control. But the possibility of a lemon is still there. Then again, you can easily get lemons in any gun at any price range, from a $250 JG all the way to a $2500 Systema. The advangate of the JG is that even if you have to replace a fair portion of the internals, you're still ahead financially and with better parts than buying a TM.

just did a quick chrono of the JG MP5-A4 and it was averaging 360fps with 0.2g's. Only complaint I have so far is the front hand guard moves up and slightly side to side. Other then that it seems well built. Will do more testing and a full review soon

Why not an Ak. The Kalashnikov 60th aniversary edicion looks like a solid gun in my opinnion.

I'm about 5' 6-5' 7ish; not exactly the tallest guy. I'm looking for a more compact, beginner platform, and personally I just like the Mp5.

I suggest ics brands. Good bang for your buck and a good starter gun. I didn't regret my decision

Good weight? Ha! I started with TM back in 01, so no I am not a metal loving plastic hater. My g3 is plastic, my m733 is plastic, it is of no difference to me. This gun weighs nothing. If you are happy with it then I envy you.

I'd say it weighs around 5lbs (i'll weigh it tonight) I find 5lbs to be heavy enough. According to what i read the real MP5-A4 weighs in at 5.6lbs. So if it is 5lbs then they aren't too far off from the real deal.

TM sucks dont even buy it. You have to upgrade the internals if you want more FPS and they come with plastic receiver.
