the rubber band pulls the nozzle out of the hopup after the bolt carrier is about 80% of the way back, if it breaks the bolt cycles but the nozzle doesnt, but you can manually cycle the nozzle via the charging handle
i dont know why they used a rubber band instead of some other method, but i guess they had their reasons

It's like the nozzle return spring on a gbb pistol I guess

no, they have a nozzle return spring too, the band has a different job, but most GBB nozzles are limited in their travel by the nozzle catching part of the bbu/bcg, and in the KJW they opted for a rubber band instead

Meh I guess... this is the result:

Pro-Bandwagon:
AEG
KJW
WE
WA Magna
Escort External Air

Pro-Breakage Free:
AEG/ Escort External Air
KJW
WE
WA

Pro-Realism (cool-down ignored)
WA
KJW
WE
Escort External Air
AEG

High Starting Price Low maintenance ->Escort External Air
In between... -> KJW
Low Starting Price High Maintenance ->WE/WA System

Cost-wise here's how it breakdown,
For rifle, 6 Spare mags, fps tuner (if needed), propane adapter/ regulator:
VFC M4: $1200
WOC M4 (CLEAR): $900
WOC M4 (Steel Barrel): $1360
Inokatsu M4: $1950
WE M4/M16/HK416/T91: $850
WE PDW: $820
WE SCAR: $730
KJW (Clear): $700
KJW (Standard): $950
Daytonagun (D-Boys): 1000
Daytonagun (LCT): $1150
Escort MP5: $920

All of above assume no parts break at all, replacement is only done if it needed fps down tune to meet <400fps standard
Magazine: ~$25 (AGM) $35 (VFC) $50 (Pro-Win, GHK, G&P) $120 (WA Standard)

Generally:
If you don't want to deal with the fixing and let people fit for you, AEG is the way to go
If you want absolute realism GBBR is the way to go
If you want variation in GBBR go with WE
If you want performance in GBBR go with KJW or External Air

Apparently it makes it much better than any other GBBR that does not have a rubber band...

The answer to your original question on AEG vs. GBBR has already been state many times, if you're willing to go that route by all means the trade-off is generally quite rewarding unless you get a lemon.

However when it comes down to picking a GBBR there's not enough information here in this thread and there aren't enough opinions mostly because the information is already out there. OP please do more research on your own, go try other people's GBBRs ask nicely :P

See which one you like better, you may run into a group of people who run KJWs, WEs, or WA/G&P/Inokatsu

There are already large collaborative threads on each gas system, go search them out you can easily locate them via Google.

Probem is, around here there are no GBB rifles that I know of. I am just learning from internet research. At the same time I thought it was time for this thread. I was curious to see whether GBB rifles could stand up to field use. From a few people came the answer "yes".

I can say without reservation that the GBBR has improved my satisfaction and enjoyment of the game by 10 fold.... I don't care of I hit anything.. just shooting at things with it is fun!!

The efficiency with heavy BBs and instant response makes them a very hard gun to "jump". I find that makes a huge difference to me.
Then again I've only played one game with a KJW and with the exception of a much larger noise signature I didn't find myself giving up anything to the average AEG performance wise.

Well time to resurrect this thread. Another season is quickly passing by and I have not seen the dominance of GBBR's that I had expected. Looks like electric guns are going to be around for some time to come.

Any thoughts?

I'm waiting for WE AK series to come out.
After getting a pistol and seeing how much fun it is its only a matter of time before GBBRs will be the one and only for me.

Which part of dominace are you looking for?
in Airsoft IPSC stuff it's already taking over. In non-cap-limit skirmish it will be a rare sight to see GBBR. Games with low/real capacity limit are emerging with GBBR.

Gas gun are never going to take over all airsoft together. Electric never did neither will internal gas.
For skirmish where people play in similiar style as paintball it won't work.

People will complain that..
they only have30 rounder instead of the regular 450 or 150 rounder magazine. In addition, I smell a lot of whining will happen when one transitions from 16 m4 120 rounder midcap to 16 m4 30 rounder real cap. The round count goes from 1920 to 480 is a significant change
In addition, the weight goes from 2kg to 8kg will make people complain a lot
If that's not enough, the cost. 16 M4 midcap cost like what? $100 +/- $50 or so? In GBBR it would translate into approximately $800

RAP4 in .43 cal & T68 in .68 cal paintball tried to change that and it didn't.

What we will see is a continuous increase in GBBR in...
  • country where firearms are extremely well regulated
  • Airsoft shooting competition
  • games where magazine capacity are limited or favoring players who use lower capacity (ie 2 midcap or 6 midcap or unlimited low cap)
  • games where GBB are only allowed

As for GBBR we are seeing a trend of brands getting kill off.
The WA's magna system is already dying slowly (WA, G&P, KA, Inokatsu, AGM, JG, Well etc)
The WE AWSS system is being replaced by the Open Chamber system. The Open Chamber system will most likely dominate the GBBR realm as it spitting out more and more platforms (AR-15, SCAR, PDW, M14, G36, L85, AK, AUG etc)
The KJ seem to be in its little niche, outside Canada (Taiwan for example) it seem to be a less popular choice.
