kind of on the topic but does anyone know if WD-40 is simalar to silicone oil. it smells the same but apparently it's a much lower weight.

Formulation
WD-40's main ingredients, according to U.S. Material Safety Data Sheet information, are:

50%: Stoddard solvent (i.e., mineral spirits -- somewhat similar to kerosene)
25%: Liquefied petroleum gas (presumably as a propellant; carbon dioxide is now used instead to reduce WD-40's considerable flammability)
15+%: Mineral oil (light lubricating oil)
10-%: Inert ingredients
The German version of the mandatory EU safety sheet lists the following safety relevant ingredients:

60-80%: Heavy Naphtha (petroleum product), hydrogen treated
1-5%: Carbon dioxide

Hrm - I've been looking through the retailers here but haven't seen anyone that sells the basic stuff. My aeg didn't come with the tools/cleaning rods and I need to pick up some silicone oil; does anyone know of a retailer closer than WCG that sells the stuff?

Well cleaning rod you can make yourself for a wooden shish kabob stick or 1/8" dowel wood rod from canadain tire very cheaply. I don't trust metal rods in the barrel in case they scratch it. If you can find a hobby shop in your area (look for Trinity Royal purple oil), then you could get the very light silicone oil to clean the barrel, or airsoftparts.ca sells the silicone oil too http://www.airsoftparts.ca/store2/in...roducts_id=623

For the thicker paste lube for gears, use canadian tire (white lithium, or super lube paste). Still trying to find a better cylinder lube, for now I'll keep using the 100% silicone paste for rubber orings from the plumbing dept. Need something lighter and less sticky than 100% silicone paste.

Also for the record:

WD40 = REALLY BAD

I clean my barrel using 2 drops of AI silicon oil dripped onto paper tower in a cleaning rod, This works fine.

For gear-greasing I apply white lithium grease that I found at Canadian Tire, For cylinder grease, I apply a VERY VERY small amount of lithium to the Oring on the piston head (about a the size of a pin head, then rub it around it) and put a drop of silicon oil in there.

Besides, don't forget to buy a pressure washer to clean it as it will save a lot of money if you will clean at home.

Hi, nice to meet you. If you need help for cleaning, I know one amazing site!. As for me, I also felt the same, but then I decided to clean everything with something cool. I hoped that it would help me. I bought a upholstery cleaner reviewed on this site. Here they are . Their reviews were really helpful for me, so now I don't worry about cleaning.
