The men cannot be identified because they have not been formally charged. They were released on a promise to appear in court.

Soft air guns are widely available and can be purchased for $25 to $200.
At least they are smart enough to charge this as an assault with a firearm. If the legal system wasn't so *BAM*, it might make a few people change their ideologies that "its not real so it cant hurt anyone" bull.

This sentence is structured strangely. At first I read it as if they were saying they are identical to real firearms AND also fired actual bullets.
I thought the EXACT same thing.

If you think that spending $200, if not more, for a PAL is too much, airsoft isn't for you.

I would pay $1,000 for my PAL if it meant my airsoft was 100% free and clear in the white. Let them fleece us for whatever they figure is necessary; ultimately it would be OUR victory.

no a PAL is good for 5 years mine runs out in 2010 what the re-newal fee will be then I don't know. I didn't have to take the course I just took the test but I did have to buy the book and study it. The test is part written and part practicle and I think I had to have a 94 to pass it. I feel a person who holds a PAL should be allowed to buy airsoft and replica guns I mean if I can buy and possess real firarms why can't I have those

What's involved in getting a PAL? (I don't personally know anyone who has one, so I figure the best bet to get useful [read: real, and well... useful] information on this is to ask those of you who have one)

What's the cost? Length of course/test, what's involved in said course/test, and where would I go? (Hypothetically. I don't think I'm about to run out to get one anytime soon, but it's good to know, especially in light of where the sport could go in the future, and the contents of this thread) And in the future I wouldn't mind being able to go to the range and kill a day/target(x2...00, there's a range not far from Elmira)

And what theories do you have regarding a possible Airsoft PAL (essentially the same questions as above, but in relation to Airsoft), realistically, knowing what you know of the sport, gov't, and current PAL rules. What would work? What wouldn't? What would help, what... well... you get the idea...

Aqua just got his PAL. It took 3 hours total to listen to a guy and to write the test. He took it from a local master instructor here in Saskatoon.

Why can't we just have folks show drivers licences etc when you buy the guns?

i mean, dont get me wrong, if your getting into airsoft, you gotta be use to spending money, but an extra couple hundred bucks for a peice of paper/plastic would really be a pain in the ass/wallet
But you do realise that if such a license for Airsoft guns were to exist then they would not longer be in a grey area of the law. They'd be in black and white and we'd no longer have to pay double the prices for our guns. It's a trade off the way I see it. One that very much would benefit us.

I got my Restricted PAL two years ago. Took 8 hours of classwork and testing, cost $125. Our course covered a lot of excellent info on firearms safety and care. A non-Restricted PAL would have only taken 5 hours and cost $100.

I'd fully support a PAL requirement for airsoft.

What's involved in getting a PAL? Well you can take the weekend-long safety course offered through Ducks Unlimited as well as some other organizations. For the three of us that went to take it, we sat and listened to a three hour lecture on what to do and how to do it and how to properly handle and take care and store a firearm. We only took the unrestricted version though, although we COULD have done both at the same time as the questions on the test are nearly identicle.

In the end, I got 100% on my exam and 95% of the questions were simply common knowledge and things that people SHOULD know.

Cost: $30 for the class, $60 to send to the government.

I haven't challenged my pal yet because I just don't have the money to justify it since I can't shoot anywhere. (aside for my AEG, which I wrapped in a towel and used to shot a giant fucking hornet that managed to get on the wrong side of my window.)

From what I understand is that if you know anything about Proper firearm safety you don't really need classes. If there is any doubt though, take the classes, you need to know this stuff.

I am lucky, I date a range safety officer (for the cadets)
