haha. You took the words out of my mouth.
I was considering a gasmask myself, but I was planning on replacing the standard eye coverings with something stronger that won't shatter when hit. Lexan perhaps?

I'd sure like to know what field allowed you to play with that mask on.

wow man, this shit scaring me now :P who makes a GOOD set of goggles that can resist up to 500 fps?
and another thing, some one told me they use a 700 fps airsoft gun on the field... is that legal? i thought you could only use the 495fps and lower in airsoft

I'm tempted to say that this shouldn't be an issue for you yet, but whatever.
Paintball googles are all certified appropriately, otherwise go with any ballistic googles that give you a full seal. ESS is my personnal favorite, Oakley SI are also nice if you find them (not to be confused with snowboard googles and the like). In case of doubt, hunt down the ANSI standard for paintball googles, look up the specs and compare the ANSI rating of whatever you're considering buying. If it's not rated by ANSI or another underwriter, avoid like the plague. |

Why would anyone even consider
Using a gas mask?
Rather than proper Goggles.... where does such a thought come from? You know.... I'm real tired of people complaining about the cost of equipment, the cost of guns, .... but cheaping out on EYE protection!!!!???? If you gotta cheap out on basic protection.... just to get in the game... forget it... this ain't the thing for you. Participation in this activity is not your right... no one is "entitled" to participate.... if you can't afford it... don't make yourself a liability by not being prepared.

A few years ago some guy came out in Oakley ski goggles and we told him 'no' paintball goggles only went to change goggles... came back with a gasmask on. He got sent home on the count of stupidity.

Maybe it's the kids and the video-game/movie generation. They see SWAT teams on TV entering a building wearing gas masks after they roll in the tear gas. It may look cool, but if SWAT members get shot at, the last thing they worry about is losing an eye. They have more vital areas to worry about.
Looking cool ain't everything. Safety first!!!
