Ok, please indicate that in your Profile, because the laws here are different about maximum velocities and you wont get the same answers.

If the gears move well and align perfectly without bushings, then I dont see any reason why it would not work.

What will happen, eventually, is that parts will fail because of the stress caused by the spring.

As long as everything is aligned properly with everything else, conclusion is flat out yes.
