If you are technically capable of building a vulcan minigun, might I suggest a .50 instead? I'm sure there would be more interest for that.

The most important thing to include on your model would be hop-up. To my knowledge no Minigun to date has come with it for whatever reason and really limits the practical use of the weapon.
The weight should probably preclude an individual from walking onto a field with it and defoliating the place with BBs. There's a reason the army doesn't have man-portable Miniguns and the imbalance of firepower such a weapon would provide in airsoft should be offset by the sheer weight and bulk of it. As a vehicle or emplacement weapon it would shine and that should be it's primary role. I would definitely not create it so that it was capable of producing 490 fps with a 0.88g BB. That equates to 9.76J and well exceeds the 5.7J requirement for a firearms classification. You're still okay velocity-wise but with 10 fps left to spare, I'm sure a small amount of tinkering would produce a result beyond that which means you have a very illegal machine gun on your hands. Best to keep the power low and skirmishable; I'd think 600 fps with a 0.20g BB would be more than sufficient for anyone's gaming (heaven help them if they play at that speed) and plinking needs. As for price, I wouldn't pay more than CAD$2,000 for one. You can get far more practical guns for far less money so you're only really paying for the cool factor and bragging rights. And those are pretty limited in value. |

as long as that extra bit of tinkering DOESN'T happen, and 490 is truly the fastest the BB will travel, it's 100% legal. Plus, because would be legally classified as a "harmless" air gun, I can export it to the US without any extra paperwork (where I suspect there would be a considerably larger clientelle). Anyway, this kind of power would of course be useless for airsoft games (it would easily break through any goggles on first impact). That is why my initial post cited a varied fps (that you will be able to adjust). To make the gun more gameable, the ROF will be lower with the "plastic" mode also. |

And why would a browning be so difficult to create (as a BB gun)? Seems like a typical AEG mechanism would do it fine. |

Found a pretty cool animation on how a GAU-17 (7.62mm) loads, fires and ejects the rounds. Kinda neat actually, that the innards of a firing airsoft M134a I've peered into (cycled by hand) has similar ideas (except the extration). I'm well aware of how the airsoft versions fire, but not 100% how it loads. Some kind of worm gear scoops the BBs into the chambers.

I wouldn't pay more than $1500 for a mini-gun. If its quality made, with metal parts and limited then I would pay a bit more.
What I am really intrested in right now is a OCIW. But the mini gun sounds very promising when using it as a "base defence" at airsoft games. |

I've always been searching for a good machine gun. TOP's internals suck , if you can make a good skirmisable Vulcan , I'd be pleased

http://www.pipersprecisionproducts.com/ Also, he builds one with a built0in tracer unit: http://www.pipersprecisionproducts.c...0test_0002.wmv Also, back in the day Asahi and ToyTec also built working M134a's, and I believe Tru has (had?) a non-firing ToyTec as well.

Kokanee, why would anyone want a three barreled .50cal airsoft minigun (GAU-19A I believe) when one can have a 6 barrelled airsoft buzzsaw in the same calibre? |
