Spring Guide and Piston Clearance

It can cause a minor increase in fps. But for the most part I find the spring tends to fit around the weight.
Regardless tho, if you say gain 10 or 15 fps but you have a 10 or 15 fps variant that's not going to help you at all lol.

Whatever you do, do not remove the release tooth on the piston. All of the shear load on the piston rests on that metal tooth, allowing it to rest on a plastic tooth will destroy your piston.

I would recommend using a circular file to widen opening in the piston and also do what lurkingknight recommended - ensuring that the piston slides freely with the mechbox closed.

Working on thqt stock Cyma compression system will teach you stuff, but gutting and replacing it is a relatively inexpensive route that will do a lot more for you than you can possibly do with a dremel.

I checked the piston sliding back when I was shimming. Put in the gears and piston to check tooth contact and closed it. When the teeth were not in the way the piston slid into the cylinder when tilted fairly easily.

If I were to modify the piston, It would be easier to either drill it or file it, don't have access to any reaming tools.

Can anyone measure their piston? I would like to know if my spring guide bearing are non standard or the piston is. If I'm going to Toronto Airsoft, might as well get a better piston rather than another guide - if it is the piston after all.

Outer (circular) Diameter : ~19.92 mm

Inner Diameter (Near Rails) : ~15.51 mm

Inner Diameter (Vertical) : ~15.75 mm


Also, Hectic mentioned that the pistons weight and strength are issues. How much of a difference is there to really compare to other aftermarket polycarbs? I've heard people saying Cyma pistons are tanks.



Edit: ^Ha, that Amos video. Remember asking him about a recommended charger a long long time ago. Recommended me a Duratrax Piranha. They were discontinued and so I got the newer Onyx.

Went to Airsoft Toronto and took my bearings and piston for comparison.

Tried some SHS pistons and guess what? None of them fit either. Looks like it wasn't just my piston.

My spring guide is made by BAAL, can't find any info on them though. Complete bullshit. Such a marginal difference in them.

That's a first for me too. Had springs and guides bind for all sorts of reasons, but not that reason.

Not the metal tooth of course. You'd have to shim that metal tooth back after though.
