There's a "hardball" group I know about in Alberta that does between 600-700fps and up to 1000fps on bolt action. And no, it's not bullshit. The group is very small mind you, mainly because you'd have to be a silly bitch to play in those games, and it's pretty much illegal at those velocities.

That would really sting and do some good damage if you got hit

It IS illegal at those velocities. 785fps with .20g is the point where you satisfy both the legal requirements for a firearm. (500fps and 5.7J) Last I checked, it was illegal to discharge a firearm at a person.
They should call it "dumbball"

Bah, I've been shot with 500fps w/ 0.28's at point blank, in the face. Did it suck? YES. Did I bitch? No, called hit and went back in. Super fun game.
(Ruined my condor jacket. Blood everywhere. ) We were also getting dead checked at point blank during a scenario by these same guns. It's really not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. These guys weren't airsofters either, but they were MIL, so I guess it comes down to the shooter. EDIT: This is in reply to the earlier posts about 540fps max limit. Not 700-1000, that's cavity piercing speeds... |

So....still over the 540 limit you were referencing? |

I think he means 500fps with a .2, using a .28
So 2.3J Otherwise it's 600fps @ 3.3J Wouldn't use anything but mil-spec goggles at that point. ANSI Z87.1 reduces impact requires as you move from goggles to glasses, I think Z87.1+ glasses are only rated for 3-4J |

Bingo, they were Gen 2 WE's in stock form. Sorry for the confusion.

Still. I've got permanent scars on my arm from a gun that chrono'd 365fps w/.20g that hit on bare skin at 20 feet. The risk isn't worth it for close range high velocity shenanigans. The potential for things going wrong seems far too high.

If you're really on a tight budget, but want to get a few games in, then I suggest looking into the Lancer Tactical series. That being said, if you're in no hurry to shoot anyone, I still suggest saving up for a quality firearm.
For me, I bought the LT M4 CQBR for like $115 just to start playing, but I'm currently waiting for a good time to buy the VFC SCAR-L (or another brand, still doing my research). |

You don't need to go further than a King Arms M4 or WE M4 AEG. Both are SAF out of the box and both go for $250ish. Not a bad price at all for their performance. Easy guns to upgrade (the KA being a bit easier) so you can build onto them.
