And yes - UHF have FRS/GMRS channels

Another advantage of UHF radios is the battery life - they will last MUCH longer than talkabouts.
actually, at Op Deadfall, a number of the linton UHF radios we had on our side(if not all? didn't exactly go around asking) had dead batteries before the end of the operation. A few of the talkabouts died, too, but I know that the one I was using (a lot, given that I had to talk to people fairly often) didn't die until about the last hour, or so. A lot of the guys I knew were in the same boat. I don't know if it was just that the batteries weren't any good, or there was some other things causing it, but that certainly left an impression in my mind. Definitely get an extra battery.

I personally recently got my hands on a:

Puxing PX-777 UHF
http://www.technologydirectcanada.co...duct_info.html

and added a Replacement 17cm UHF Whip Antenna - 460Mhz, SMA Female:
http://www.technologydirectcanada.co...duct_info.html

I also picked up a:

Element H-250 Military Phone (EX 117) with Kenwood two-pin
http://www.ebairsoft.com/element-h25...ne-p-2589.html

But remember, the H-250 Military Phone is loud and every transmission will be heard - not the best if you trying to be silent/stealthy.

The battery on my PX-777 has been great - no complaints.

Always good to have at least one fully charged back-up just in case though.

Like any electronic device powered by batteries, they will eventually run down and fail on you.
Good rule of thumb to always have backup batteries for any electronic device.

No particular reason I choose the 777, but it was recommend to me by a couple other people in the know.

You can't go wrong with any of the UHF radios on the TDC site.

Again - if you have any questions, I highly recommend getting in contact with Techseller as he is a wealth of information and runs the website.

I know my Linton will run for an average of 3 gamedays before it needs a charge and is going on 2 years old.

The only annoying thing is the keypad lock isn't very locky.

1)How is the Puxing keypad lock?

2)Can you use the same serial cable to programe a Puxing as a Linton?

If you want dual band capabilities and the ability to monitor a second channel, look for the Wouxun KG-UVD1P. Great little radio. You can find them for just over $100 on eBay and dealextreme. Programable for all frs/gmrs frequencies and sub tones (privacy channels)

Currently I am using it with a kenwood double pin shoulder mic and a moulded acoustical tube ear piece.

Stop by the shop and check out the Wouxuns we carry. More and more guys in Edmonton are using them these days.

In regard to programming the 777, you need the PC program and the programming cable (sold separately).

I was lucky enough to have an ASC member program mine for me as I am a Mac user

Here is a thread on the topic:

Hope that helps.

I have a base file I've sent to a few people to help program wouxun's. The supplied software is crap but a downloadable one seems to work great.
