Now there's something I've never seen, heard of, or ever needed on an M4 LOL
Those semi issues can be a whole load of problems
Weak trigger spring, cutoff levers worn, bad selector plate, somethings not lubed properly

What I do for those demon issues is open up the mechbox, take the spring out, and actually go through a full cycle in semi to see what's not doing it's job. So move the selector to semi position, hold down the trigger, and cycle the gears one full rotation.

ok 2 things.
1 i had shimmed the piston drive gear as it was very loose - i have been told hese dont need shims.. gun fires so not the issue

2 the tirrger issue doesnt stick when the battery is not connected???

The problem is most likely the cutoff lever, or a trigger spring, the trigger will only ever stick forward when the gun is cycling anyway
And there's no reason not to shim the sector gear that I can think of...
