My advise...
Don't build it off of an ICS. Get yourself a nice G&P and start from there, that way when you're done you'll be left with one of the most beastly guns on the field ICS does too much of their own thing. |

Inner barrel is not dependent on gearbox design.

The thing about Tokyo Marui is that they are an all around reliable beginner to experienced player gun. Their costs are not insanely overly high and the company uses high quality materials in their products and has very strict quality control. Which is why they make for great upgrade plat forms.
G&P is like TM in the way that they make great products with good materials and good QC, however G&P guns are steeper in price initially but you can find G&P models of guns that you wouldnt find in TM. For example the G&P UMSC SAMR. http://www.gp-web.com/en/productspop.php?pid=1154 If you started with a TM M16 you would require to replace the entire front end which would include barrel and RAS etc, the receiver, the front and rear sights and the internals. The only thing you would have left would be the stock. G&P gear boxes are great quality and their motors are fantastic. In the end its all about what you want to do and what you deem to be cost effective and how much you think your time is worth. Me? I wouldnt have the time nor wish to waste the money to track down 25 different parts and pay to have them all shipped from separate retailers if I couldn't get them all in the same place. Purchasing a complete unit like that fit my criteria made by G&P or a similar company would be more effective. Was there a specific question I could help you with in regards to the KJW M700?

I have a KJW M700 and have tweaked out the best in it, and no, there were no upgrades done to it, just tuning in the right areas and learning specific things about it`s personality.

I say G&P's make the best project guns. Yes they're expensive and yes you might end up replacing most of the part on it. But when your done, you have almost a whole AEG in parts that are actually WORTH MONEY!!
I made back a good chunk of change on my fully converted magpul AEG because I started off with a G&P and sold the metal body just after they stopped being widely available. ANYWAY, start with a G&P, it's a SOLID platform, VERY rigid gun. That takes most of the inconsistencies out right there. I recommend a 6.03 for an AEG DMR. Prometheus barrels are very consistent with their bores (that means very accurate), and the bore is open enough that you don't need to clean your ammo pre-game or clean your barrel every 50 rounds. Remember that FPS doesn't equal range at all, but it helps you get your rounds on target in a shorter timespan. Get a firefly hop rubber, and high quality compression parts. So prometheus cylinder set, or ARS stuff from Amos. And find yourself an excellent gundoctor. $300 worth of prometheus parts doesn't mean crap unless the guy putting them in knows what the hell he's doing! |

Ok, I didn't know G&P had that kind of reputation. Sounds good to me!
Seeing how the price of the internal parts are, is there a good place to buy the parts from? Also, wouldn't it be easier to buy a whole Prometheus gearbox and just put it in a G&P gun o avoid the trouble of a gun doc? Another question: would you recommend using high torque motor and gear over the standards to save a bit of battery? Also is there anyway to turn off the full auto feature on a standard aeg? So it only shoots semi and safety? My airsoft group is planning on giving SPR the same fps as bolt action, that way I could have the fps a little higher and use heavier bbs for wind control(am I right about weight = better against windage)? You talked about cleaning the inner barrel, how often should I do that? And is it important to do? What about the gearbox, how often should I clean that? If there is a reliable cleaning guild you awesome people know and wouldn't mind telling me, I would love to read it. Off topic: gas bolt action Is there a big performance differenece between a spring and gas bolt action? What is the effective range on the m700 if the fps is lowered to 450? Most review I found is in the interest of using this gun as a down range/ target practise gun. So that's like shooting over 500 fps which in my point of view, unless and not helpful. If you have any idea, please let me know! Also, what make a person a gun doc aside from knowing where everything goes and how the gun works? I know there are a lot of gun doctors out there but I just hate how long they take and the cost of their work is just mind blowing! |

Huge difference between spring BA and gas BA, spring BA will almost always put out the same velocity regardless of temperature (will change only due to air density due to temp), but if you actually get a gas rifle to shoot at 450fps one day, the next it could drop to 400fps, the day after it could shoot over 500fps. Considering the amount of time it takes to rip the bolt open to adjust, reassemble, chrony............. it might take you an hour to get it shooting under the field limits.
One thing about that rifle, a couple of us had one on the team (I still have mine), it'll punch through both sides of a pop can at 100ft on a hot day, and I was also able to make it blow holes in the bottom of a tuna can at 30ft (my 500fps M24 at the time would just leave deep dents using 0.36g). Which adds another topic, fill it full of propane, you need to purge the pressure by dry firing a few times. When I first got mine, I tested it a couple days later in the basement (was about +34C outside), my first shot after filling was around 715fps, second was 620fps, third was 560fps, the rest for 20 shots was between 550-560fps. With duster, almost same reaction, just 100fps lower on all velocities. |

Gas bolts are just a horrible idea, they're way too inconsistent from shot to shot. They're only advantage is that they can be make incredibly quiet, but so can spring bolt rifles
And prometheus doesn't make drop in mechboxes, only systema makes decent drop in mechboxes, and they're parts aren't as good as prometheus... Regardless of which, you'd still need a talented gundoc to drop the mechbox in and make sure everything worked right. Believe me, factory workers don't give the slightest damn about how well the product they're making works, but a good gundoc cares |

Ah!... Now that I think of it... Maybe I should of toss this topic in the upgrade/mod section.
Anyways, thank you all for your time and energy explaining things to me. Greatly appreciated! |
