I made my DMR out of a Hk416, your best bet would be an m14 its What I see Most people using as a DMR. But you could make one out of any M16 if you want. My personal recomendation would be an M16A4 all you need to do is add a scope or acog for a basic platform or for a more advanced version add the scope/acog, and long tight bore berrel which also might mean a new cylinder and a silencer to hide the extra berrel.

this is kindof a thought here, just wondering, ive heard in airsoft, since the guns arent as accurate as real steel, some people measure accuracy by how many rounds you can put on a target, meaning you have a higher chance of hitting them due to the higher number of BB's aimed at them. with that in mind, wouldnt a good airsoft DMR be something like an M249 or RPK with a scope? feel free to call me a retard, but it does make sence in a way :P
2 reasons i see this as a bad idea 1st is cost, most saws cost in the area of 800 to 1000$ 2nd is safety most DMR setups in my area shoot over 400 fps whch has the requirement to be pined to sEmi auto which isnt possible with most support guns.

Also one can get some amazing accuracy out of AEGs with the right parts and ammunition, no its nowhere near the same as realsteel but there are setups that can pull off some amazing shots outside average airsoft engagement distances.

Just a couple points to ponder if your still set on doing a m series sniper rifle get a madbull ultimate hop up, its alot more consistent than the stock one. Second since this is a full length gun your going to need to make sure that you have a non ported cylinder in your mechbox. And for it to be a true DMR your going to have to lock out the full auto.

For real weapons, M4s have been used as a DMR, it's not a "true" DMR IMO, but it has been used for that purpose. When I was talking to a couple of US Army National Guard guys inAfghanistan back in '08 they said their unit was using M4s for that role.

In carbine length there's not a lot of fully usable for marksmanship in 5.56, at least for my definition of marksmanship.
A 16 inches barrel is a minimum so I'll say a SR-15 may be nice. G36 and HK416 can make some serious damage too but are way more reliable.

My favorite for multi purpose still is the HK417 in 16 inches.

CQB ? What the hell do you think sidearms are made for ?

I used my G3SG1 in CQB with great effect, and our Canadian Forces use the C7A2 in CQB. It doesn't matter how long your rifle is, it's how you handle it that counts

As far as LMG's being DMR's, you could probably get a G&P M249 to shoot as well as a fully upgraded M16 type DMR at 400fps, but not at 470fps.
At 470fps, you don't have full auto, but the heavier ammo offers much greater accuracy over distance. Only issue is ammo gets really expensive above .30g....
I prefer just using my M4 to pick off snipers, it's got the range and accuracy, and it's only 380fps so I can keep my full auto

I've been to games where opponents have had M249's shooting ~400 with tightbores. I hated every fucking minute of it. They were using them like DMR's shooting 30 rounds per second.
