What's up with G&G these days?

Hey everyone, second noob thread. I don't think many of these questions have been asked before (I've searched around quite a bit) but if they have, don't flame meh too bad . Anyway, so after looking around at reviews, general impressions etc. I have noticed that G&G seems to have picked up their game recently. However, I still have a few questions regarding their quality.

1. What's up with the metal body content? I mean some sites say Magnesium, some sites say "Magnese" some people say it's plastic and metal mixed together (?!). Any Chem experts want to share the differences? As far as I've heard, magnesium oxidixes and magnese flakes away (Are they the same thing? Why would G&G choose to use those materials for an AEG body then?)

2. Biggest question. Internals. Reading reviews from 2006 to 2008 it seems that G&G has stepped up it's QC. Back in 2006 reviews, I was reading that people had their internals stripped after a few games. It seemed that you had a 50-50 chance of getting good internals. Now, (Not sure on this) it seems that G&G has reinforced its gearboxes? I've read that in recent months their gearboxes conatin steel gears, are pre-shimmed (Although further shimming is probably required ), have steel spring guide, and metal bearing bushings. I've also seen their guns with V2 gearboxes advertised as the TM design so it would make sense that their internal components be the same quality. A side note, some of thier AEG's advertise shooting at high 200's or low 300's, I assume that G&G gearboxes should be able to handle this (It's not a blistering 400+ FPS ), especially if they are TM clones. With a few small upgrades (Spring) these AEG's could probabaly shoot 350+ if they are as reinforced as G&G advertises. Any confirmation on any of this stuff?

3. Hop-up. I've read reviews saying that the stock hop-up is horrible. Mind you these reviews were also from a year or two ago so I'm not sure whether G&G has improved this aspect aswell. Even so, couldn't you just replace mentioned hop-up with a better one.

4. Advertising. Some people say G&G spends too much time advertising and not enough time QC-ing (Not even a word but oh well. ). I assume this would be the reason for the early gearboxes failures?

1. I can't say much about the chemistry beyond that my G&G's metal body has shown no sign of wear, but the steel parts that came with my KA stock are rusting. Both parts have received equal amounts of weathering, since I put the KA stock on before ever fielding the gun.

2. My G&G GR16A3 came with bearing piston head and bearing spring guide. The spring guide was not fully metal. It shot ~360fps stock, it's now shooting 400fps on the dot after replacing the spring, piston assembly, nozzle and spring guide. I was not originally planning on replacing the piston assembly nozzle and spring guide, but I had the parts on hand. My opinion of the stock G&G internals is that they looked pretty good, though the bearing spring guide's bearings had seized on arrival.

Stock shimming wasn't bad at all. The mechbox itself is very well made, IMO. Good tolerances. I don't remember if it's reinforced or not, but I use a Sorbo cylinder cushion anyways.

3. Stock bucking is pretty poor, but that can be said for almost all brands. The hopup unit itself is plastic, not metal, but I've noticed absolutely no problem with it.

4. Unless they are quoting G&G, they're full of shit. G&G had crappy early QC the same way CA had crappy early QC, the same way any company have crappy QC: insufficient attention to detail. Advertising doesn't enter into the calculation.

From what I heard SRC was also like that before.... They had the worst guns on the market, and now they are better with their genII & genIII guns, like my SRC HK416 but their hopup rubber and mags still s*** balls!
