How To Paint Your Gun CADPAT

Hey every one! Over the next few minutes, I will be laying out step by step intructions on how paint any gun you want CADPAT! Im basing these instructions on the best of my abilities to paint, and thanks to my 3 years of making model airplains, I think the instructions will help very well with a little practice! So here we go!

Step one- Get your paint and other materials - Ok, first, you must get the materials needed for the gun you are painting. In this case, I strongly recommend you go to your nearst hobby shop and pick up the colours that match the CADPAT paint scheem. If you have an airbrush, than use water based paints and lightly thin them down so they work well with the airbrush. If you do not have an airbrush, don't worry, you can use spray cans. Also, pick up some Tamyia flat clear coat, primer and some painters tape.

Step two- Colour selection - Im going to make this step easy and just tell you the colours I used. All the colours I have are Krylon paints, and are all matt finishes. Satan will work just fine, it will just be a hint more shinny. The colours I recommend are; Leafy green, italian olive, wood brown, and black.

Step three- Getting started - First off, mask off any places you don't want paint in with your painters tape. Once finished, take the primer and give the whole gun one coat. If you decide to, you can put a second coat on if you feel it will work better. Next, as the primer is drying, or you can do this before you even start, cut shapes out from the painters tape, as it would look like on the CADPAT pattern. Do tiny ones for the brown, slightly bigger ones for the leafy green, and large ones for the black.

Step four- painting - Start by spraying the whole gun with a single coat of the wood brown. Once it is dry, neatly place the smallest of the shapes you cut out on the entire gun. Put very few of these on the gun, because on real CADPAT there is only very tiny armouts of brown. Space them out evenly, and do not crowd them! Next, spray the entire gun leafy green. Be careful to make sure the tape is down firmly, so no paint will get under it. Once this coat is dry, take the mid sized stenciles and place them randomly on the gun, making sure they are not crowded, and are firmly down. Spray over the whole gun with black after the stenciles are placed properly on the gun. Now, take the largest stenciles and place them on the gun, NOT CROWDING THEM! Make sure they are firmly on, and finaly, spray the whole gun itailian olive.

Step five- removing the stenciles - Now, remove all of the stenciles, being very carful not to ruin the paint and BOOM! You have a great looking gun! Now, lastly, put 2 coats of clear coat onto it, let it dry and its ready for combat!

How do people do the super fancy "leaves and branches look" as seen on some guns in the classifieds? I know how to create a wood look with cheese cloth but the mossy oak/forest look is something new. Thanks!

You simply use leaves and spray over them once your base coat is down. Its quite simple.

You first spray the area you want to paint the same colour that you want your "leaves" and such to be. Then when the paint has dried, simply lay down (hold in place if you have to) your leaves, and lightly spray (to much and your leaves will stick, runs, etc) the colour you want to use as the back ground. With some practice, you can get into 3 and 4 colour schemes.

im just curious, do you have pics? Ive been looking for paint colors that match the TW Cadpat colors and thus far has been an utter pain to find the correct colors. Are these the correct matching colors?

No, sorry DarkAngel I don't have any pictures because my camra is broken... with any luck, soon it will be fixed and I will take a picture of the gun I painted.

Its realy good, the colour matches exactly with the TW CADPAT, and I personaly think that for one try, it looks perfact. Even better than FOX's M700...
