STAR SUSAT protection

Hey, question for anyone with a STAR SUSAT: Is it necessary to attach some kind of optic protector to protect against BB hits? Or is the lense strong enough to shrug off a hit?

Thanks

it can takea hit from moderate range, but not close. the susat blows anyways, youll find youll either just keep it on for looks, or switch back to your carry handle.

Thanks for the reply. You're the first I've heard that doesn't really like it lol.

Assuming it has a lens on the front like any cheap real steel scope, it can easily take 450-500fps shots point blank. I tested on my G&P Aimpoint with a 450fps gun point blank, the BB's turned to dust on impact and there was no mark left on the glass. The only optics I know of that need protection are holosights, protection for anything else is just being paranoid.

Awsome.. two contradicting answers :P. Anyone actually have first-hand experiance with a SUSAT?

I'm tempted to side with Lutnit; I've taken a direct hit from a 400+ gun on the front of the optics on my G36, but that's a much smaller lense and I don't know if I want to take the chance with a $150 sight.

well in the year ive used mine, i never had a problem, and im sure ive taken a lens hit. the only lens ive ever broke was an rds from redwolf. the susat is well built and beefy, but i wouldnt shoot it point blank to find out, so for cqb your either on your own or go with lunit. however with my susat, i took a hard tumble and when my gun hit the ground the reticle on the susat had rotated about 33 degrees or so (if anyone knows how to reajust this, it would be greatly appreciated).

Ok, thanks all for the replies. Once I get the sight I may look into some kind of protection for it if it can be done easily enough. IMO it's worth the piece of mind.

Or y'know you could click the third link in my signature and I can make all your problems go away.

is 10 bucks really worth the chance of breaking a 150 dollar scope?

mmmm....delrin

As for $10 being worth risking a $150 scope. If your scope is a nice one so costs $150, the amount of force it takes to break the lens is FAR past what polycarb will protect. You will literally have to smash rocks against it to break it. Seriously, assuming is has ANY magnification the lens will be at least a half inch of hardened glass, nothing short of steel or aluminum BB's will even scratch it. Gotta get up to real steel guns before you should even be slightly worried about it being shot out. So unless you play against guys that use .22LR's in airsoft games, a scope needs zero protection. Holosights and 1x RDS's on the other hand can be quite fragile.

I have fired 450fps guns point blank against a G&P aimpoint, a Canadian Tire RDS, and a $25 3-9x scope. The first two are 1x but the glass is still thick enough to turn the BB to dust upon impact.

I have had my HurricanE RDS holosight look alike take 400fps hits point blank and it didn't even scratch. Yet I have seen the cheaper holosight look a likes (Huang's and the like) shatter from a single 350fps hit from a good 40-50 feet away.
