AK Metal Body Questions

Hey Guys:

I was just wondering. For AK Metal kits, there's a lot of kits out there. king arms, G&P, cheap China stuff. I was just wondering what you recommend??
Are the Element AK47 metal bodies on the net any good? And fitting issues?

Some metal body kits include the front piece as well. Is that essential for installing a metal body? Will it make a big difference in helping to solidify the body?

Thanks!

I found my King Arms AK-74/AKM style body to be very nicely done. The finish was really though and uniform, and yet not overly thick at all. I had to sand down the insides of the body for the gearbox to fit, same with the hole for the grip.

Also have an Element AK-74/AKM style body on my other AK. Battery tray had fitting issues (not a problem with an ICS bolt, but if you use the battery tray, you will have to do some sanding for it to sit fully forward). Also - there were no holes for the front tangs of the pistol grip, but with a small file, that problem was gone in minutes. Decent for the price.

The metal front end is not required, but makes the AK more solid, realistic, and a hellovalot more heavy. I recommend it. Plus - the King arms front end also has room for a bigger stick battery (if installing on a folding stock/stockless AK).

I have 2 CA and one DT made receiver. Can't say anything bad about those brands. I know that G&G are more expensive, lighter and fragile if compared to CA or HK made receivers.

I have the King Arms body as well and am very happy with the quality. The only thing I didn't like about the body was the greyish finish it came in. But that was easily fixed with some good ole flat black Krylon.

Actually I have a question relating to Ak-47 and Ak-74 lower, I a little bit confused about if it is actually legal to import these yourself or do you need someone like A&A to do it for you?
I am of the understanding that it is illegal to import m4/m16 lowers but I could be mistaken.

Does anyone know the guild lines for such a thing?

Thanks.

Yes, by law the receiver IS what is considered a firearm, thus on an airsoft AK, it's a replica.

Agree with Ancorp, I have purchased the Element AK74 receiver before and it is an amazing value for the money - provided you don't mind doing a bit of work on it. Think it goes for something like $30ish overseas, an insane value. The finish is also top notch surprisingly.

I'll have to disagree on the finish on this one. Albeit it was pretty strong (took a lot of paintstripper and waiting for it to finally give in), it was too thick. Very thick flat black paint. Ruined the look of the selector markings and contours and such. The top cover also had a fairly thick finish, but this time gloss black.

Here's a pic of mine when it first arrived (ignore the mag).

Cheers,

Hey

Thanks for the replies guys!

So with the element metal bodies, if I want to have a battery wired to the stock, the battery tray problem mentioned by others shouldn't really be an issue right?
