Illuminated Mags

I got a question about the illuminated mags that are available for the M14/16, specifically the G&P one available on WGC. I don't want to spend the money on the tracer unit. I'm looking for any feedback about them. I'm interesed in getting one, but want to hear some feedback first. Thanks!

The only question I will ask; is any cost worth the amount of use you will get? How often do you play at night? Did you factor the cost of the special ammo?

They feed well...work well, and look killer. Tracer bb's are more expensive and you won't use them all the time...but when you do, they rock.

I've got 1 of the G&P mags and cant wait till I get more of them, theyre great. I also have a tracer unit, nice thing about the tracer unit is I can switch it from gun to gun outside of the Mseries line up. Keep that in mind when you do buy.

Or just make sure all all your guns are armalite mag compatible (STAR L85 and CA36 with private parts magwell)

Just remember that tracers work both ways. Firefights look amazing when there are a half dozen or more guys with tracer units. Just stand back and watch all the BB's fly.

Got one and love it! Not having to strap an otherwise useless plastic extension on your rifle to shoot tracers occasionally is much better than the tm system. During a night game it's nice to know that switching to tracer to designate targets etc is just a mag change away.

I prefer to only load every 5th bb as a tracer and the rest regular, that way its;

a) less expensive
b) if I do get "bumped" and have to return fire, i'm not painting a big laser right back to me as much
c) still able to point out targets etc with a short fa burst

fyi I ordered mine from ehobbyasia and the shipping was reasonable.

C'mon Grey, he's looking for some actual user's opinions, not a buzzkill.

I'm going with Kokanee on that one, load every 5th round or so. I'd prefer to use an illuminated mag as opposed to a tracer unit because from what I've seen, the tracer unit flashes when BBs pass it. I've shot guys because of seeing the flashing, and it's a not-so-nice thing to have something say "here's my head, shoot at it!"

Anyone know if they make an MP5 illuminated mag? Just wondering, if I had intent to buy I'd search it myself.

i have seen mp5's with tracer units but not mags. I previously did a search on wgc, unc and redwolf but the only illuminated mag I found was the G&P one.

Yup, G&P is the only company that makes it and its for armalites only. Now that I have guns that actually use armalite mags I'm ordering some on a WGC group order with a couple bottles of G&G tracer BB's. No idea if their any good but their the cheapest.

You're other option, Stalker, is to find those instruction on making your own illuminated mag and modify them to fit the MP5 mag.

Look I found it for you!

I was thinking of performing an illuminated mod to my CA249 box mag but it's not entirely practical. I could use the G&P illuminated mags but as a support weapon it kinda kills its functionality. I might just go with a tracer unit and buy a case full of the cheapest tracer BBs I can find.

I like my tracer unit better than the mags. It's not long, looks ok, and you can set it up to get muzzle flash. I used it a few weeks agon in Montreal along with a night vision scope. I was impressed at how easy it was to hit targets and see it in the scope. Next time around I'll be hooking up equipment to take a video of it. Very cool stuff.

Why isn't it practical? You could just do a mix of say 20% tracer and 80% your regular rounds, and just set up a small lamp inside the box reservoir. Mind you, unless you just shoot a burst or two then nothig for a while then you would't have the tracer BBs coming out illuminated. Is that what you mean? In that case, put the lamp in the attachement that plugs inot the mag and run two wires down the side of the loading tube into the box and that should work just fine.

Ya, have seen that before, and the thought has crossed my mine about making one. I have three hicaps I rarely use that I could make one out of if I really wanted to go that route. Just would have to go SMALL as far as components go, like bright LEDs and small yet easily replaed batteries.
