Trigger Help for USP Compact owners

Hey folks!

After much toiling and frustration, I've finally managed to fix the trigger for my USP Compact. The solution (seeing as there are no more places which carry the Compact trigger) was to install a full-size USP trigger in it's place. I don't know about the availability of full-size USP triggers, but there ought to be more roaming around than the compact ones. It's possible even (though I haven't tested this in any capacity) that the SOCOM trigger would work, though it might need fitting instead of directly dropping in.

Full disassembly of the gun is somewhat involved, and while I'm considering writing a guide, for now I can offer help to those who are thinking of going down that road. Here's the guide I used to take it apart, but it's less useful when putting it back together. However, combined with the manual, you ought to have a decent idea about how parts are to be fitted.

Beware, you will most likely bend the small paperclip-like item which keeps the slide-lock down. I'm not sure how to remove that part without bending it. It's easy enough to bend back and replace, but doing this often will obviously cause issues.

Also, the only way I was able to remove the trigger was to completely remove the frame from the metal insert. I don't know if there's an easier way, but i certainly couldn't find it.

The new trigger fits just like the old one did, no work needs to it. The new piece pulls the trigger bar no problem, and appears to work just fine. While I have no actual benchmarks to compare, the pistol operates in the same manner that it did before it was broken.

Also, having it disassembled, and literally collecting dust for over 2 months appears to have no problematic effects on the function of the gun either. I never chronied it before, or anything like that, but it's still punching through cardboard boxes like nobody's business. I've put about 50 rounds through it so far, but I've run out of gas (had the last dredges of a bottle of green), so more testing needs to be done to ascertain that it's in fine condition.

Once I've got more gas, then I'll put more rounds downrange, and see how the trigger holds up. I haven't seen wide-spread threads concerning the full-size USP trigger breaking, so I'm hoping that they've made changes to the manufacture of the trigger which makes it more durable. Should it break, I'll post it in the thread here.

Update - 03/31/07

New trigger now broken!

I've put roughly 2500 shots through since the new trigger, along with the usual trigger pulling when not actually in use operationally. I don't know if there are widespread full-sized USP trigger issues, but they have not improved the trigger in any way. I'm going to (again) look into a better solution, and will install the second back-up trigger I've got. Again, I'll keep a rough estimate of how long it lasts. Maybe this first one was just a dud?

Maybe an upgraded trigger spring is responsable....

The only upgrades are the recoil spring and metal slide/outer barrel. Everything else is stock.

An important note is that this is my only gun, and I've been going to TTAC3 fairly religiously in the past 2 months, 2 or 3 times a week. I also tend to shoot a lot, so it's being used quite a bit. Maybe I'm doing something horribly wrong when I pull the trigger?

I don't think you're doing anything horribly wrong; it's got a lot going against it: weak material, a high stress point, and a big finger yankin on it! I couldn't find an aftermarket part on WGC or Redwolf, maybe someone else knows of another source. Talon, Pm me if you are going to ttac3 tonight. If you're going, please bring me one of the broken triggers!

Real steel triggers work with very slight modification. They are made of steel and will not break under normal usage. Theres a guy in town here that can do them if you want one.
