STAR M249 SAW shooting 156fps with an M110

Gun: STAR M249 para

Brought the gun out to the sniper hunt game in Montreal and it chronied at 156fps with 0.20's. I did a popcan test when I got back and it can bearly dent them, just bearly. I was told by a CA M249 owner that it may be the inner barrel and hopup not being properly connected and air escaping. The gun was just completly taken apart and the hopup and inner barrel where together just fine. The nozzle slides perfectly into the hopup and the hopup snugs up to the front of the mechbox just fine.

Does anyone have any idea whats wrong? Something inside the mechbox maybe?

Yeah thats wierd mine shoots 320 stock in spring position 1 and 360 in position 2 using the stock spring.

Have you watched thru the top of the clear gearbox as you have fired to see if anything looks unusual?

I mean this is a long shot but try another spring for one.
What about the nozzle itself Is it moving back and forth properly?

That is possible, I bought it second hand and the piston had been replaced and as far as I know it hasnt fired right since I got it. I have a metal gearbox to replace it with and I'll check when I open it up but thats not going to be for a few days...

i got a similar problem with mine, it will barely shoot 10 ft before the bbs start arching down.

i tried it even with a 390 fps spring that i had lying around and it didnt affect nothing - shoots just the same.

i opened the (stock) mechbox, and everything looks fine. im thinking it might be a hop-up issue now, but i pretty much gave up on it... trying to find a good gun-doc...

If this hasnt been fixed, im sure this problem is a cousin to the TM g26 hairline *INVISABLE* crack that develops in some section of the piston. Now I MAY BE WRONG, but look into the flaw i noted and you may find your answer!

best of luck - alex

I remember Yuxi mentioning this - TM Pistons are not the same size as the STAR ones. You have to replace all parts with STAR parts only. The two are not compatable (STAR and TM)

I didnt mean the part would be replaceable by the TM g26 ones, i ment the problem is probably VERY similar, a piston hairline crack that develops over time and is invisable unless taken apart and looked at under a mag glass.

I have since sold the M249 but it was apperantly a bad O-ring on the piston. The previous owner had stripped the piston and replaced it with a systema aluminum one, I had CDN_Stalker check it all out and install the new wild monkey metal gearbox and he swapped the O-ring and it worked fine after that as far as I know. You can PM him I guess for any more details, I'm just going from what I remember of what he told me.
