Whats not right with this gearbox?
I was having problems with my TM M16 VN (as desvribed in this thread) so I took the gearbox apart for the first time. I got the problem fixed (electrical contacts gunged up) but I think I put something back wrong, I reassembled (didnt really run into any problems) the gearbox and put the gun back together completley. When I tried to fire the gun (on semi) the gun made weird sounds (sounded like gears slipping) then the fuse blew. Any idea whats wrong?

double check your antireversal latch...if its on wrong, it will catch the gears and pop the fuse.
and make sure you put the wiring back the same way...if you switch wires, it will turn the gears the wrong way and catch the antireversal latch and pop a fuse. also check the motor height placment, if its to tight or to loose that can cause the problems also. |

The red wire from the trigger contacts to the battery (the one that is stripped of insulation in the pic) needs to be placed on the bottom. You have it on the top of the red wire that goes to the motor, the battery wire is raised above the mechbox shell, hence the motor shredding the teflon insulation.
Aside from that, I can't see anything else wrong with it at first inspection. |

Make sure the switch buss (the little L-shaped piece in the center of the switch that the trigger moves to make contact). That piece needs to be in the grooves of the main body of the switch to effect smooth closure and be releasable by the semi-auto cut-out lever.

ok, I rearranged the wires and i've still got problems
Video: Video of prob - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting It sounds 'sick' although it dose fire. Also after each shot the trigger sticks. I tried playing with the little motor adustment screw, no luck.

Any chance one of the red wires is preventing the trigger from returning to the forward position? Looks like a possibility one wire is pressing against the trigger somehow causing it to not return properly. Gotta make sure all wires are as flat and tucked away as possible from the trigger, safety bar, gears and motors.

sounds like motor height adjestment to me. that sick sound is usually from improper shimming or poor motor alignment.

One thing I see that I don't like is that red wire coming off the contact, the wire is coming off like this _/ when it should be vertical like this _! (might be part of your problem with sticking trigger, but might not, best to run the wires cleanly as I mentioned before.)

Also check the white part of the trigger circuit assembly (that the trigger pushes against) to make sure it's properly guided across the assembly.

Just to recap on the wiring. And it sounds like your motor is too tight.

Ok, I cleaned up the wires, and now the trigger works fine.
I reassembled and its still makeing that same noise. I played around with the motor adjustment screw and it didnt help. I dont think it would be the shims, because this is the first time its been opened, and It worked fine before. But just incase- Gear 1 has 2 on the bottom. Gear 2 has 1 on the top and 1 on the bottom. Gear 3 has 2 on the bottom. Is that how they should be?

Shims are generally different gun to gun.
But if you didn't change the gears or shims and put everything in back the way it was yeah there shouldn't be an issue. Still sounds like the motor adjustment screw. Sure you adjusted it enough? And did you put the little silver disk on the end of the motor for the adjustment screw to push on? |
