Legality of importing Night Vision Rifle Scopes
Hey guys,
Was wondering if anyone knows of any concerns with importing night vision. Specifically Night Vision Scopes designed to mount to a weaver rail. Anyone know any specifics about what generations are allowed? Does customs differentiate between Gen.1, Gen.1+, Gen.2, Gen.6? There's some great deals down in the states, just wondering if anyone knows if I'll have a problem with having them shipped up here. Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, NVGs can flow freely so long as they are not a member of the AN/PVS family. The Yukon weapon and head mounted sets seem to make it through customs fine.

Why import? You can buy those in Canada. Be aware they are NOT cheap.

I did read. The question still stands. I think he forgets little details like shipping, exchange rates and Customs Duties.
He did not say if he had looked at Canadian resources or was aware of them. |

gen 1 and 2's can be exported from the U.S. without problem, however, gen 3's cannot. Its not that customs will stop them, its because legally, anyone in the U.S. is not allowed to export them. Just like Eotech sights, firearms, the majority of "tactical" weapon parts etc, they need an export license to be shipped here. If you look on eBay, every seller that sells gen 3's will (should) say that they cannot legally export them.
On the other hand, if you can find a seller willing to risk sending it, you should not have a problem. Thats how I got my Eotech 552. Technically I shouldnt have been allowed to get one, but if you find a seller willing to break federal law and ship it, well, go for it. Its illegal for them to sell it to you, but its not illegal for you to buy it.

Do you have any documentation to support your claim that someone cannot ship EOTech sights across the border? That dosen't seem to make sense to me...

Not directly relative to the question at hand, but if you havent seen here, you can buy within Canada.

Anything higher then gen 2 can not be shipped over the boarder due to controlled goods program of the CGD http://www.dmc-cgd.gc.ca/cgdweb/text/index_e.htm (that's there home page find info on your own). contact a Canadian supplier who deals with this day in day out. maybe try currentcorp or some other source near you current is out here on the west coast but still the best in country.

EOTechs can be shipped from US to Canada, that's how i'm going to buy mine in a couple of weeks, from Lightfighter prolly... As for nightvisions, Sellers won't export them from USA in most cases, due to Federal laws for exporting prohibited items. (talking about higher end nv's.

I have Gen 1+ and am in the market for Gen 2. You can get Gen2 Out Of Production stuff (Tasco) in Toronto for just over $1000 for a monocular. Newcon Optik has them, and they have a showroom. And just in case you didn't know, Greylocks is correct, they aint cheap. Gen 3 starts a taround $8000 CDN and goes up from there if you want Milspec stuff. Milspec Gen2 starts at $1300 and goes WAY up.... There goes the tax refund
