Prometheus M14 barrel
Hey guys,
Does anyone know off-hand if a regular AEG barrel can be modded to fit in the M14? They look similar.

Yes but you have to cut different grooves in the barrel for the hopup unit to lock into.

Ah ok. I wanted to put a 650mm into here, but ill stick with the 500mm one designed for the gun.

anything over 590 gets you the barrel suck problem. do a search of it. the cylinder cant push enough air and creats a vacume, slowing the BB. over 590mm you need a bore up cylinder...and that needs a 450fps/500fps and up spring to push...and since the M14 doesnt have enough aftermarket internals to run that as it is, your outta luck.
the 650mm is always out of reach. but at 500mm you have a long ass barrel as it is, all the extra trouble to get a few more mm wouldnt give you a noticable improvment....just a viode in your wallet. |

The cylinder in the M14 is actually longer than in other AEG's (not sure about PSG1) That alone adds roughly a 40-50fps increase in velocity over most other TM AEG's in stock form. It has some funky nozzle design too. I guess that goes hand in hand. The stock TM M14 shoots roughly 325-330fps in stock form whereas others are around the 280-290fps mark.

Wrong info.
M14 does not have the hop up clip cut in the same place as other guns. |

Barrel suckback is a myth. It was debunked here or on Arnies a short while ago, I can't recall where. I'd search Arnie's for it, but if you've EVER used Arnie's search engine....well, you know. :rrr:

Barrel suckback is a myth. As your piston is being pulled back, so is your tappet plate and nozzle thus breaking the air seal around the hop rubber.

Another question:
Will a systema red type piston and silent kit (cylinder head, piston head) work in the new gearbox? Reason is, my Ver.2 systema complete box died on me. I want to put as much of it into the M14 as possible. Would anything else from inside work? I think the gears are a tad different, and i am aware that the cylinder wont fit (too short). Thanks guys.
