Using a dead man's weapon

So I'm currently watching the Evike NSRT discussion for this week, and one of the first questions was about improvising during gear breakdown or weapon malfunctions. Matt talks about a story of how he used the sniper rifle of a teammate after said teammate was killed. And now I'm starting to wonder if there are any clear rules on this in general

As long as you're not outright just stealing it from your teammate, would using their weapon like this during a milsim be taboo or is this totally fine?

imo its the same as asking for a mag if your out of ammo, granted u cant "ask" a dead player for their gun so long as its understood before hand by teammates that one may pilfer from the bodies of fallen comrades i dont see an issue. So long as said player has the cert to use said sniper rifle lol

I've done it plenty of times
It REALLY helps to hide vital info from the enemy sometimes.
For example, at one night op I was by myself behind cover suppressing an enemy base for about an hour, they wouldn't come out to get me since it was open field between me and them and I had NVG.
Buddy of mine makes it to my position, lets off one burst then got shot.
I kept alternating between both guns to make it seems like there was still two people behind the barricade. Worked great.

I picked up an M249 off our dead support gunner during NF3 in an attempt to suppress some windows, only for the battery to disconnect and me get shot in the process!

If you're going to pick up a dead guy's gun, make sure you know that it works!

I always do, especially when there's a dead mans M249 on the ground, how could one resist it?!

i know were all about the realism and what not, however I dont think the "dead man tell no tales" applies when grabbing someones personal gear. Unless you really know that person maybe, however you should still ask as it is theirs. I know i wouldn't just give my PTW out especially to people prone to braking guns or having fits with them for example. Just my 2 cents.

Exactly. It's an "out of character" courtesy. The same as if you see someone bleeding after they get hit, you won't be all "fuck him, he's dead" you'll check if he's okay.

LOL, if I was dead and someone ran up to grab my gun they would quickly learn A) this dead man has a solid grip and B) ask and I might honour the request.

all sorts of shenanigans seem to happen at bigger games.

at NF3 my support gunner's drum mag jammed and he ran out of back up midcaps. I was hit but I was running a g36 as well so he started pulling mags out of my vest as I was bleeding out. lol

Also switched off with another teammate some time later cause his scar started doing weird things, so I gave him my g36 while I tried to troubleshoot his scar on the fly.

I would clear it with teammate and game control first.
I've been bouncing around the ideal of assistant machinegunners. When the machinegunner gets hit the assistant takes over.

If you can trust your teammates, every rifleman can be trained to operate the SAW keeping it in play longer. If I recall the US army trains squads to revolve around and keep the SAW up as long as possible.

This actually happened to me & a teammate a few months ago during an 8H OP. Our right flank was wiped out & we were the last ones left (without comms durr, I bought some right after that game) when we saw an enemy DM sneaking up. My teammate's P90 had just gone down, & I got shot in the head. With the OPFOR trying to evaluate the situation, my mate grabbed my rifle & shot him in the ass. Ahhh, the memories.

My two cents, you shouldn't be a "teammate" if you can't trust him with your weapon. If your on my team, you have full access to my kit. And by team I mean the guys I show up with and share a patch. Now a random player, probably not unless I've seen them at other events and respect how they play the game.

i dont mean your "team" i mean the other guys on which ever side your on. I would assume you have gotten to trust your team members.
