Team seeking Radio advice.

Hey there, my team is looking to do one big purchase and buy a full radio setup for each of us. (4 full radio setups).

I'm incredibly new to radios and I've been driving myself insane trying to learn all this stuff and figure out what is compatible with the radios we've picked out.

We are all looking at purchasing the ever-popular Baofeng UV 5R radios, my question here lies in compatibility with certain antennas and antenna extensions/routers.

Here is what we are looking at:

http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...oducts_id=2635
http://airsoftdepot.ca/catalog/produ...oducts_id=1715

Now I know we are going to need an adapter to connect the Baofeng to the TRI Antenna extension, my question is what is the name of that connection, and does an adapter even exist for RP-SMA to "What-ever-the-connector-is-called"?

And although the frequencies seem to match up, I might as well ask if that antenna would even work if I did get them connected... (Don't see why it wouldn't.)

Thanks for any help in advance guys, I've spent the last three days losing my mind over this stuff. I can't seem to find information anywhere.

Don't have the answer to your question but I've been looking into the Baofeng UV-5R's as well for a radio setup and I found this review/overview video for it a little while back. Its got quite a bit of info on the radio which you might find helpful.

ODA 561 Baofeng UV-5R Airsoft Overview and Programming Guide - YouTube

Oh and he talks about antenna's and related stuff for for the UV-5R around the 12-13 min mark which might have the answer you're looking for though, not sure.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Thanks for reply. I found that video last night and it was incredibly helpful, my original plan was to copy his exact setup, but the problem is finding all of the same stuff in Canada, and Amazon.com won't ship it here. (Amazon.ca either doesn't have some of the stuff or it's crazy expensive).

Well you could do what I do over here on the West coast if you're close to the US border and have the stuff shipped to a US shipping broker and pick it up for a nominal fee.

US pricing and shipping is usually cheap enough (or free) to warrant the effort and the day trip to the States (at least it is for me) for stuff that's hard to source in Canada or just plain overpriced compared to the US (ie. the baofeng UV5R is ~$30 plus free shipping in US on amazon.com but $60+ local).

Here my config file for the UV5R radio (to import all preset GMRS channel) http://www.faqmilsim.ca/fichiers/rad.../UV5R_GMRS.dat

http://www.baofengradio.com/en/ <- Software and USB driver there.

Reps from Industry Canada started visiting shops that sell Puxings two months ago, certain models are no longer kosher for import. Still possible to find them in country however as obviously only the shops which are official Puxing retailers are getting visits.

This is first hand knowledge btw., I've been physically present during one of these visits.

Is it because it can access band that are not open to general people or for other reason? Is 777 also being effected by such ban?

Their issues were;

a) Front programmable;

b) Dual band (VHF-UHF)

c) Able to operate on reserved frequencies (ie, those not set aside for civilians).

I've noticed a few places don't have the Wouxun radios anymore that carried them on a regular basis, did they get nailed as well.

Is the front programmable thing bad because one could access frequencies outside of allowable FRS bands?
