TLP Charger/Discharger Fan
I just got my TLP Charger in the mail. The box said "We are not responsible for any repair service of the cooling fan" on it. Curious, does this mean "the fan WILL break its not our fault"? And if/when it breaks can I continue to use it or is their risk of dammaging it more/my battery?

Lets just say that TLP chargers don't have the best rep when it comes to thier fans. I know a lot of people have had them burn out etc... Don't worry, if you are at all inclined to electronics, you can replace the fans no problem.

My fan is about to die on mine. Its barely turning. I got to shake the unit to get the fan to start.
But yeah seems to be a standard type of fan so installing another shouldn't be too hard. Obviously they knew its a crap fan to begin with. Jerks. |

my fan died after about 2 months.
its not TOO hard to install another computer fan in it, but it WILL burn out again. best thing to do: turn the charger on its side and use a house fan blowing directly on the charger for cooling. |

as everyone's said, the TLP fans WILL fail eventually... usually sooner rather than later. Whenever I sell stocked TLP chargers, I always upgrade the fan to a quality computer fan before moving the unit. Almost ANY aftermarket computer fan will be better quality than the crap piece that comes with the chargers.

I leave my TLP sitting on the Air Conditioning vent in my room. That pretty much solves the problem. I guess it would still work in a home without AC, but not quite as well obviously.

As I know, the manufacturer of TLP charger has already stop the production of this series of chargers due to the old safety standard.
The chargers being sold in the market is the stock in shop. A new one named "FLAME" is generated to replace the old series. http://www.batteryoption.com/cgi-bin...y_method=popup As this charger has stopped production, probably no repair service will be available. |

not that they had any repair service to begin with...
and even if they did, it makes no sense for north american users to pay for shipping it there and back PLUS the labour of fixing it. |

I have the 2000C model and the reason that they are not responsible with the fan's replacement is because its running way above its rated spec of the usual 7-14VDC for a 12V fan the one I have is currently screaming at 16.7V.
