A better Crye Airframe helmet?

I know Emerson makes the $55 airframe helmet and hear some complaints.

What do you want from better clone? Provide your thoughts and I will forward to factory.

New airframe clone will be made of better material, better making, for airsoft as well as cycling, hiking.

I presume the one from EB is also the Emerson one? (edit: looked at the bag, the EB one is by TMC. Don't know if the Emerson one is and entirely different product?)

I don't hate mine; I think the main issue for many people was the sizing, although with some work I've gotten mine to fit (Sz. L / 7½).

The absolute worst component, as with most repro helmets, was the pads. Replacing the stock pads with issue ACH/MICH pads solved a lot of the problems people had with it.

The straps are decent for a repro (better than the ACH straps on a lot of ACM helmets) but the rail seems a bit weak (flimsy plastic). I would have liked seeing the rail a bit more robust. Some people also reported some accessories didn't fit properly although I haven't gotten to test this myself (the one set of goggle swivels I got fit fine).

The build material of the shell is nice in itself, the AF being slightly lighter than a repro MICH (but still much heavier than those plastic/ABS PASGT helmets). The main problem with the shell is the finish: there are some very noticeable marks and blemishes from the injection moulding.

Overall I'm still happy with it, given the price and that i had a spare set of pads for my MICH. Hopefully someday I'll be able to replace the rails with better ones.

I have an Emerson clone of the OPS Core Carbon - it's hard to believe that this is really the same company that manufactured the Airframe clone, because the difference in quality, materials, colouration, packaging and construction are MILES apart. It's hard to believe they would make it this different.

Even the pads are completely different - It doesn't make sense to me that they would use completely different pads.

As for the rails, the Emerson OPS-Core replica I have has great rails. Everything fits perfectly, whereas the EB AF clone I got fits like crap and the plastic feels weak in comparison to the Emerson OPS-Core.

As for finish, the Emerson OPS-Core has a great finish with little to no flaws and great colouration, whereas the EB AF clone has two noticeable shot points from injection, and has been the main complaint of all reviews of this helmet.

My understanding is that the Crye Airframe clone from EB is from TMC, although I don't know if they are just a reseller from a factory that another brand uses.

I don't hate the EB Crye AF clone that I got... I had expected what I received, but given the fact that the Emerson OPS Core helmet that I have is so much better right out of the box, I'm going to resort to using it until I get the opportunity to bring my AF clone up to a usable level. I do like the profile of the AF helmet better.

Well after much fiddling I was able to make the mount for my contour HD work on the shabby rails. I still need to sand down the injection points on the exterior of the shell, give it a paint job and add the NVG mount. I've found that I cannot wear my comtac IIs with this helmet (even after rearranging the padding system to help accomidate the headset. the ear cups are either too large or the helmet is just to damn small).

It will be great if there are difference sizes for the AF, as well as other helmet. I know numerous will buy clone MICH (2000/2001/2002) if difference sizes are available.

Padding and strap are crucial. Huang's FAST is a great example for the quality. I never feel comfortable in a Emerson's AF.

The finish and colouration are mentioned above.

PS: Any words on the woodland combat BDU?

would it still be the same price or slightly a bit more expensive? I really want the ears for the AF!

It will be more expensive than Emerson's AF, but won't be as expensive as the fast helmet since AF is simpler than fast.I would guess around $85, with VAS shround, good rails, good pads and straps.

Apologies in advance for the necro, but I'm curious if there's any news on a new Airframe replica? I'd like to upgrade my lid for the coming season, and think I'm better suited to the Airframe than a FAST.

I've go no particular problem with the current one on offer (all it has to do is integrate with my mesh lower face mask via rail clips), but if there's going to be a better option soon, perhaps even with Ears or Chops as an option I'll certainly wait.
