Shooting Indoors: Target backers

I'm just curious what people use to back their targets when plinking indoors.

Considering the ridiculously small size of my appartement, I don't want a 1-ft deep and 5-ft high (I use NATO targets) carboard box. Not only would it take a lot of space when stored, I also don't want to reduce the shooting distance which is already pretty short at a maximum of approx seven meters.

But, just having a wood plank or similar also isn't an option as BBs would bounce everywhere.

So... what do you guys do? I already tried some things but I'm sure people have ingenious solutions.

Hung sheets/towels absorb nearly all BB energy.

Still, I can't imagine making the effective footprint much smaller than you indicacted.

EDIT: yeah, that.

Where can I go for additional information on this subject?

I found out that I was putting my bb's into the pillow I use to use. Pillows are out.

hanging towel or sheet that goes into a box or something at the bottom.

I personally hang a sheet in the bathroom off the shower curtain rod, and angle it into the tub. Plug the drain and all your BB's are in one spot for a quick and effective cleanup.

BBs will eventually shred any material out there. I use to use an old leather jacket as a backstop, within 10,000 rounds it was shredded. Use somethig tough and purpose chosen, make sure it hangs and can swing freely to absorb impact. My trap has always been a milk crate with a swinging material backstop trap, with an army mesh laundry bag attached to the back to collect the BBs and bits of paper target.

I know you're trying to minimize the amount of depth your backing will remove from your limited range, but I use a cardboard box filled with empty plastic water bottles. The BBs have never pierced the bottles and all end up in the bottom of the box, so once the box is all shredded up, I just toss the BBs and throw the box in the recycling bin. Plastic bottles can be reused again. If you drink lots of bottled water like my roommate at the time did, then you will never have a shortage of bottles.

BBs would tear that up in a heartbeat.

We use a Moving Pad/Blanket as a backdrop and hang 3 and 5 inch HDD platters off a forklift fork at 100ft makes a nice PING!!!! when you hit it and the pad also when rolled at the bottom is a collector for the bbs wich we use to make grenades outa.

Also the pad has been approved to take 400FPS in full auto at close range too but as stalker mentioned i dont think it would hold up to 10,000 rnds of continious fire.

Friend of mine uses a box stuffed full of plastic grocery bags. Cheap, easy and reusable. I use it in my apartment without any problems

I have an extra non-spring mattress that I use. I make it lean against a chair standing vertically and use thick needles to pin in some paper targets. I haven't seen any BBs penetrate it yet, but I'm sure they will.

My second method is.. Boxes of tissue paper! They seem to absorb most of my BBs because of all the layers of tissue and the BBs stay in the box. Once they get full, empty them out. If the tissue box gets torn to hell, replace it with a new one. If you find tissue boxes too small, use more than one. Tissue boxes go for about a dollar or less depending on where you get them.
