KJW M4 magazine help
Hey, My magazine for the kjw gbbr had a leak, so I took it apart to fix it. After possibly fixing the problem I am having a hell of a time putting it back together.
After putting it's internals back together and lining up the three sections perfectly, the final step is to put the black rod (with the hex head) into the hole next to the filller valve and screw it back in. I tried for 4 hours last night and one hour this morning to catch the threads into it's spot. It won't catch. I am wondering if it takes excessive downward force to catch it, or if there are any tricks to doing this. The threads are not stripped. I can catch it just fine when a third of the magazines shell is removed from the picture. And the rod is not bent. Any help or advice would be super cool. Thanks. |

Just for reference, how did you fix this? What was the problem?
I have not taken apart my mags, but if I have to and run into this problem it would be nice to know how to fix it.

hope this helps;
i had a mag, and it leaked...i took it apart (pins and all) had this thing stripped...did all i thought i could (made lip end fatter with putty...locktighted some pins and sealed them with bonding agent), put it back together (after a solid four hours of fighting with the main body screw/long black threaded hex-rod)...it still leaked... i managed to pry the thing open once again...cleaned all the edges and proceeded to do the same but with a little more...i cut a pop can for a piece of aluminum (about 3inches high and 4.5-5.5inches long-you might have to modify this as you go...you want minimal space consumption, you are sealing the gas chamber)...MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO BURRS ON THE EDGES!!! (BURRS ARE FRAYED EDGES...EDGES MUST BE SMOOTH AND LINEAR) MAKE A PERFECT RECTANGLE...DO NOT CREASE THE ALUMINUM PATCH...after you cut a piece gently fold the patch into the bottom part of the mag with the fill head ("floor plate" of mag)...use vaseline to seal the aluminum patch...(TBC)

after greasing the patch...lube the internals genrously with silicon oil spray, then gingerly re-assemble the mag... a cheat i use to easily re-assemble KJW M4 mags, is a little tricky, but once pulled off correctly then you'll never have a problem again... 1)...remove the long black hexed master screw but DO NOT DIS-ASSEMBLE the mag... 2)...hold the mag togethr with duct tape until the process is complete... 3)...mark the centre of the master screw, on the threaded end, using a scribe 4)...place the screw under a drill press, and centre the mark on the screw end 5)...using a 2mm bit, drill the end of the screw out to a depth of half an inch... 6)...next take a 2mm wide positive spring (usually found in a hobby shop/craft store/hardware store/electronics shop) and cut it to about less than a quarter inch... 7)...next find a piece of wire about 2mm thick...this wire must be rigid...a bar/rod of some sort will work fine (a small screw drivewr that is no longer of use is perfect) (TBC)

7)-cont'd-...make sure the old screwdriver is 2mm thick...a micron thicker is okay but no more... 8)...round the end of the rod/bar...and cut it to just over a quartr inch... 9)...into the hollowed out screw, you will drop in the less-than-a-quarter inch spring...followed by the more-than-a-quater inch rod...grease the contraption and re-assemble the magazine... the spring loaded end will allow you to feel the hole the master-screw thus fits...this is still achieved though with patients...slowly turn the screw and DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE!!!...this will only cause the screw to fall into a space beside the hole...it effin annoying...
