OTV fitting and armour inserts.

Ok so I got myself a marpat OTV this week and now I'm looking for armour inserts and some expertise on how to fit it. I ordered the large size OTV as I'm a rather large guy but having loosely thrown it over myself it seems very very loose. I'm guessing armour plate inserts would change the fit so where can I get these and do you think they will work?

Just to clarify, are we talking about the old OTV (IBA), IOTV, Marine MTV, or...?

I made inserts for my IBA (SDS) from closed cell foam (aka. foam bed roll) which is almost the same thickness and rigidity as the kevlar soft armor inserts. I used newspaper and a sharpie to draw a rough shape of the inserts and after cutting them out and making sure they fit properly, I used them as a guide to cut the foam.

With no armor inserted the carrier will be very loose, yes.

Are you talking about real kevlar panels?? You can check eBay for real interceptor armour to use in this vest. Drakes idea of cutting your own foam is a really smart solution if you don't care to spend hundreds of dollars on real inserts.

You can also use replica SAPI plates in the OTV plate pockets, available here- http://ascmart.ca/product_info.php?c...products_id=19

I think I'll have to go with the foam since the OTV front portion has two separate pockets.

EDIT: Would the Sapi plates work with a Ciras? I know it is unrelated but I was thinking of getting a Ciras for my Flecktarn kit.

Yup, it will work with most vests designed for a 10x12" plate. That is the standard size of SAPI plate. Hope that helps.

get a 20$ foam matress from canadian tire and cut it up, worked great for me
And OTV's are always a size large, a medium would fit you perfectly.
