Fixing a broken battery?

I have a Firefox 9.6v 1500 mAh nunchuck type battery thats less than a season old. One of the wires that actually attaches to the cells brioke off. Can I solder the wire back on and keep using this battery? Is this safe, will it work?

safe depends on what temperature you use to solder, also whats the internals of the battery that will help, but normally i find(from an electronics background) that you can do it as long as its not completely over heated like some people tend to do, cause the more you heat the cell your going to damage it, i could be wrong here but tis what i do

Use a very hot soldering iron. That way the solder will melt before the battery has a chance to heat up.

Solder away. Just be careful to not over heat the cell. Strip and tin your wire and also re tin the cell. Let the cell cool a bit and then solder your joint. Try to set it in one shot as fussing about will introduce too much heat. Remember to orient your wire lead the way you want it to sit before you solder.

Good luck and happy shooting.

Ok just to clarify Coachster, there is a few mm of wire still soldered to the cell. Should I try to reattach the wire to this or start on another point of the cell. Also can you re confirm. I should tin the cell too?

Cut off and re solder. And yes tin the wire but only for a few seconds.

Remove the old bit of wire. Heat it a tad and pull it off. I only suggest re tinning if there's not a lot of solder already there it left after you clean off the old bit. Every situation is different since it's not on my work table so I suggest it but use your own judgement.

Use a soldering iron at least 45W. Best is 60W.

First cut and tin your wire.
Clean the battery top by melting the old tin and sliding it off with the iron.
Apply a tad bit of new tin to the battery top and press the wire in.
AS SOON as the tin melts in the wire and battery top, remove the iron and DON'T MOVE the wire. The tin bubble has to be shiny, otherwise it will break off again.
