Magpul "PTS" is completely separate from Magpul Industries. Magpul PTS is from Hong Kong (that's what I've been told) and to keep cost down, using Ares (which is based in HK) would be the best choice. Also, Ares is known to do unique and out of the norm guns. So if Ares f* up, Magpul Industries reputation won't be harmed. Only Magpul PTS.

As long as the name Magpul and logo are on the products, it is Magpul to everyone.
Just checked the back of the box on my AFG2, it says " PTS by Magpul Industries Corp". Last edited by SuperHog; November 13th, 2011 at 22:29.. |

I own two ARES airsoft guns and I must say, I'm satisfied with how they perform (upto now). One is the UMP and the other is the L1A1. I was attracted to them initially for their exterior build quality and trades.
I have no gripes or groans as of yet with regard to their performance, but maybe I've been lucky?

Yeah they didn't respond to one of my emails either. I just sent them another one. If it's been a week, I'd send another one. Emails are free. they should have at least acknowledged your email. The three times I got stuff from them, it seems like I was talking to the same person. I don't know if there is just one person working there.

This is all hearsay, but if you followed ARES from when they first started up, it makes a lot of sense.

I've had my fair share of mech box problems with my Ares M60E4 over the years. they were all fixable with the use of generic parts.
finally broke a proprietary part the other day. its a small plastic piece which holds the spring guide in the mech box. this lever allows for quick spring changes. the contact point it makes against the spring guide is no more than 5mm thought about contacting Ares to get a replacement part... but decided not to since it such a poorly designed part that would eventually fail on me again. also with all the comments in this thread i think it would probably take weeks to get the part (if I'm lucky) I decided to fix this crappy / flawed design with a piece of wood I found in the dark corners of my basement. tested it with modify m120+, m130+ and m140+ springs.... it works.... on top of that I still have the ability to preform quick spring changes... .....so there you have it.... my Ares m60 mech box is being held together with a piece of wood I found in the dark corners of my basement which works better than the proprietary part it came with....

Haven't even received my Ares yet, and I'm starting to hate it already. Looked at every retailer I can think of overseas and can't find mags for it, everyone I looked at had them listed as "out of stock". Hoping to get a few more before the season starts again in April. And it's an Ares L1A1 SLR that I have coming.

Just picked up a Ares g36kv yesterday. First ares gun, don't quite know where I stand with it yet. Build quality is not as good as I expected, handguard has a bit of play, some things are rough/not finished off well. Haven't shot it outside yet or even gamed it so we will see. Mags are already a problem, was going to purchase a KA 5 mag set but to my dismay they did not even fit in the gun. Anyone have this gun? What mags do you use? I have heard MAG brand work.

G&P does have a huge license with magpul, but they aren't the only company that puts magpul parts on stock AEGs.
And from tons of experience working on them, I've decided that all PGC style LMG mechboxes are just crap. They're plagued with TM spec gearset fitment issues, some have proprietary tappet plates, and they're all used in conjunction with a CA style M249 hop chamber that was never very good to begin with, and always develops a horrible air leak later on. Not to mention box mags, can't speak for any others, but the CA boxes are total crap. I hear A&K is the way to go for boxes but I could be wrong... The G&P 249 series V2 mechbox is definitely the way to go. I've never had any sealing, hopup or mechbox issue with my V2 LMG. And now that ARS makes sorbo cyl heads, you never have to worry about the mechbox cracking either. The box mags are solid, pretty sure the boxes are real steel plastic. And it uses a tried tested and awesome AUG hopup chamber. |
