New to airsoft, a few questions...

Sure, certainly there are recommendations, but information on good 'ol wiki can either be old, wrong, or biased. Doesn't mean that it is however, I use wiki myself at times, but there you go.

Modern lipos typically have better controls in place to handle things like charging/discharging problems. That way they don't go nuclear if there's a problem and instead just die. That being said, that's why you should never buy cheap ones or charge them on your carpet.

Many modern lipos also list their discharge rate, though for airsoft guns that is usually not necessary info to have. So assuming you have an adequate motor and gear/spring setup, and you buy the appropriate battery for your setup, then no, you don't need a mosfet.

I run two AEGs (no MOSFET) on lipos successfully. It doesn't matter what device or battery you use, you should have the right amount of output for the right device, wether that's an adapter or a battery.

Found out it comes with a battery, so will just go with that for a start before dropping anymore money into it.

Not gun related, but eye protection. I have always had issues with goggles and glasses. No problem with fit, but fogging up is a problem. Used dual pane, single pain, tried all sorts of things on my glasses as well as the goggles themselves. I saw an add for goggles with a mini fan in the top. Does this actually work? Anyone with glasses wear this? Do they keep both from fogging up?

Yes and no. They definately work, but some better than others. It all depends on how heated your body gets and what weather you're playing in. Also, be careful buying these products online as there are plenty of knock-offs out there, which can include crappy fans and non-ballistic lenses.

- Revision Desert Locust w/fan
- ESS Goggles w/fan
- Smith OSW w/fan

And is a great Canadian retailer.

The Revisions SHOULD be good as they are fairly large, so they could encompass glasses. Some goggles are uncomfortable with glasses, so maybe read a review. Many goggles can have corrective inserts in them as well.

Another option is to buy micro fans and so your own setup. I did this with a set of WolfSpiders and fogging is a zero issue, even in high humidity.

If you're on a budget, Dye I4 (Used are 50-80) will guarantee 0 fogging problems.

I suggest you wear contacts on days you pew, Glasses are a nuisance when you pew, even those "RX" inserts tend to fog here and there.

If you dont know that, then with all due respect, you should not be giving people an opinion on lipo batteries.

Mosfets are strongly recommended for 9.6v nimh large cell batteries and 11.1v lipo batteries, and thats due to the voltage, not specifically the amperage.
Higher voltage causes arcing, which will dirty the trigger contacts, and a high amperage coupled with high arcing will destroy them.
You can safely run any stock gun off a 7.4v lipo, no problem.

Discharge rate is not something you need to be concerned about unless you're under the motor requirements.
So if your motor draws 15A and you supply only 10 from a lipo, big problem.
If the motor draws 15A and your 9.6v mini only supplies 3A, no big deal.
If the motor draws 15A and your lipo supplies 50,000A, no big deal.

Ive got a thread on batteries in the noob section that covers all this in detail. There are other major advantages to lipo over nimh aside from the energy density.

Revisions do not guarantee protection while wearing eyeglasses under their locust goggles. At the very least it would at best be a tight fit I couldn't fit my glasses under it and had to use contacts.

For glasses use a paintball mask like JT's or ESS Land op goggles

Hey guys, quick question about the goggles. I've heard that revision thermal lenses will almost never fog. If I don't want to spend $100+ USD on revisions, would it be possible to buy a revision clone (like the Lancer Tactical ones) for $30 and then replace the lens with a revision thermal lens for $40?

I doubt Revision lens will fit into Lancer frames. Goggles are not something you want to macguiver to work, you only have one set of eyes it's not worth the risk.

I have Revision Desert Locust fan version with thermal lens and Sawflys with the prescription insert. Cost me close to $500 for everything but I hardly have to worry about fogging and never about safety.

My friend bought ESS off of amazon and got replicas. (I think it was Amazon)

If you don't want to spring for high end fan goggles, then there is a another way; Valken Tactical Zulu Goggles. They are a well known paintball company that makes low-profile thermal goggles. Not all versions have thermal lenses, so read carefully. I know that Milsig carries them. Anyways, they work for some people and not for others.

You could buy surplus goggles on ebay, but now you have to take a risk to check that it is actual surplus and not a copy.

Think I will go with a model that has a fan. I think more of my problem might be my glasses.

No contacts to use instead of glasses so need to find fix for this. Last time I played paintball a few years ago out in the cold was terrible, basically could not play because of fogging. Always had to remove my mask to try and clean up. Not the safest thing to do.
