If I were to make Mortars that could be used in airsoft... Would anyone be interested

What I'd like to know, if you want to sell those commercially, is how you arranged to do that legally at 17?

Do you have a business permit? A permit to build replicas or airguns? Business partners that are over 18?

Those are valid questions you should consider.

Well if he's getting a patent for it that usually means you do not want anyone else to make money off of "your" idea other then yourself..... so business I'd have to say yes he is planning on making a business out of it. Otherwise why bother witha patent, put it up as free trade information.

Flack, I am asking valid and important questions he should consider, because if he sells something, makes money from it, that is Income.

Manufacturing anything commercially, as a business, requires the right permits.

If you dont think there are important laws behind that, fine with me.

Something about the patent:

I'm not really going for a patent.. It's a little joke with another team here (Involves them talking about a patent ect ect).

Greylocks, there's nothing in canada that STRICKTLY 100% STATES that you MUST (no acceptions) be over 18 to play. I know of a couple underage people who play the sport (And have their own guns) here in manitoba because they've proved themselves to be responsible ect ect.

And me making these things in my basement, and selling them over the internet wouldn't really be consitered a buisness, How is it any different from people who make and sell lense protectors, and custom gear?

I'm not expecting to sell alot of these things, I just think it would be nice to have some ordanence "devices" in this sport.

Building lens protectors, making clothing and gear, even making propane adaptors is far from the same laws and regulations that apply to making anything at all that shoots something. Allright?

If you plan to sell them, it becomes a business of selling an item that shoots a projectile. This is where being legally an adult will make a difference. If you were just building one for yourself, probably would not matter. But you did say you wanted to sell them. That changes things.

This can, and will, attract attention to yourself. The income you make from it is part of the issue; ever tried to deal with the Tax Man? It's a lot of fun.

Then when it's notice what your product is, it will attract even more attention.

So I am, again, suggesting to you that you cover ALL the bases if you wish to do this. I am NOT saying you should stop, ok? Just check all your options.

Allright, Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Part of my "development" is checking out the legalities of creating and selling these devices. So far the authorities I've talked to said it wouldn't be a problem aslong as it doesn't involve combustion... But I'm not sure their word will be "legally binding" in court if it comes to that.

Get anything that the authorities tell you on paper, in writing, even on email, and get the paperwork officially signed.

Words dont mean crap.

As for the mortar, if you use a piston system with a spring to power it, I posted exactly that concept for anyone to use on these boards a few years back. So it will be impossible to copyright/license the idea.

My idea doesn't use mechanical power, through testing I've found that over time mechanical things end up breaking down alot quicker than something that's air powered.

Mine used a pressure imbalance.

Mine takes about 3-5 seconds to pressurize..

By the time you've got it loaded it'll already be fully pressurized.



If you need any suggestions on how to get a bigger boom out of it I'd be glad to help you, I know a fair share about combustion ones.. (and that's why I've ruled them out for airsoft.. They're just FAR too dangerous)

That boom is just loud enough for me... echo going for 2-3 city blocks after shooting it
