I wouldn't buy one right away, but that's a case I'd be following with much interest.

Still a very very cool product. Can't wait to see the final product and see how it works.

I know lots about the dark side of china. That's the reason I am here in canada. However I will not over-react and generalize.
The optics plant makes the new scope is the OEM factory for G&P. In a mont th or two if the scope shows on G&P website, I will not be surprised. Quote:

I don't think anyone will be building a Nuke out of flashlight vials, but if you had an old surplus device out the USSR that's gone stale (I smell a scenario)? The folks at customs seize things like capacitors and other unexpected odds and ends as weapons components. Enough radiological material will get a closer looking at and mess with the rest of your imports.
For the sight itself the biggest concern would be the robustness of the body. If you cracked the lens or vial would you also release the gas? Out doors that would not be a big deal, but it could be serious indoors.

the amount of tritium in miniscule in an acog, you need tdg and hazard materials transport permits to transport tritium in any noteable quantaties. however on the acog it states the levels are so small they are exempt from any regulatory sanctions. i imagine the clones are made in relativley the same fashion. taking into scope the cost and process of not only aquireing tritium, but handeling and storing it, they wouldnt pack anymore than they would absloutly need into these scopes to stretch out how many they can make from one shipment so they dont have to buy/handle/ store any more than they needed. like watering down draft beer or pop at the resturaunt kinda....

What type of projected price would we be looking at for this product? I've always loved the look of the ACOG. This would make it even cooler..

I believe tritium only beta decays. Beta particles are not even strong enough to penetrate the outer layer of dead skin in most cases so yes, you would have to eat the scope to be exposed to any radiation. Even then you'd probably have to eat thousands of scopes to even be in danger of any long-term effects.

40 years later, we'll all have cancer, and we can thank ASC for it.
Is this a magnified or standard ACOG? And when is China going to clone some NVG haha.

All 'standard' RS ACOGs are magnified.

Well is tritium significantly more radioactive than thorium? Because TiG welders are around low amounts of thorium their whole careers, that's 40+ hours a week. I know I play airsoft 5 hours a week, so just don't sleep next to the ACOG and you should be fine
and either way, being well experienced in chinese materials, they probably put so much lead into the construction of the ACOG that it will seal in any radioactivity anyway Last edited by ThunderCactus; June 2nd, 2009 at 15:00.. |
