ya, i wouldn't be playing the "sniper" role either, like what you said, a designated marksman.

I find that 1 30 round mag is good for my vsr but i have an extra just in case. For my g17 though i have two 25rd mags and planning on ordering another 1-2 just for good measure.

I only play a sniper's role and I find 2-3 mags is enough to last me a 6 hour game. I'm usually only trying to take-out targets that are out of reach from other players, if their easy enough to hit I'll tell someone nearby, but 2-3 mags works fine for myself. On the other hand I've seen people play with about 6-7 mags and just waste alot of rounds.

Two 24rd mags is the most I carry for my CA M24.

As far as using a GBB as a back up, best thing you can do is dial in your hop up for 0.30g BBs and up, and learn to shoot it that way out to 150ft. Is easy, and will work, as long as you have the mindset to do so. Aka. use 0.36g aim for the head at 120ft and end up hitting the chest. Works in my KSC G19, so why not, have gotten kills out to 140ft with it. Two things to reinforce this; 1/ GBB has limited rounds; 2/ heavier BBs will penetrate brush better than lighter ones, will hit harder and make the target feel the hits better. The less shots you have to take at a person, the more 'stored kills' you can contain in your gun, meaning, the less ammo useage you can get away with per mag.

a DM carries a DMR, not a sniper rifle
So technically your a sniper IN a squad lol
I tried out a sniper rifle, really liked it, got about 1 kill for every 2 rounds. Only used 12 rounds since it was a short scrim, but for longer games I'd carry 6-8 mags. Not because I need the ammo, but because the mags are light, take up very little room, and I'd rather have the ammo and not need it than NOT have the ammo and really need it lol

New setup:

4 mags

1 30 round
3 55 round

When you're shooting a stock VSR-10.. you often have to shoot people more than once.
