With an Argo, I'd be thinking of something more like this crazy thing.
Take the Argo, make own roll cage (Argo's roll cage = ugly), and mount an M249 on it. Now you've got an amphibious mini 'warthog' thing happening. But, it ain't no battle ready T-72 conversion |

Why not just build something along the lines of a German WWII Pzkw I?
Teenie little tank, think it only had a 2 person crew, was armed with 2 MG's in the turret. http://www.battletanks.com/new_page_6.htm Probably easy as all heck to build something similar out of the right model of Argo. I always wanted to follow through on this idea but like so many of my other brilliant ideas I just never got around to it. |

you could do that, but i guess it comes down to what the person building is into me, me myself i like the newer hardware so id build something after that, maybe a smaller ver of a lav lol |

Tank would be awesome, but still the issue how to take it out?

shouldn't be that hard to work out, and if you do the walls with fiber glass, you would hear a rocket hit you I'm sure i could find a good way to make it work, cus dammit i want a tank! |

^ .. Go for it! .. I think if it was made out of clear fiber glass, so you could SEE your tank being 'blown to bits' it'd be awesome!..aslong as it could be clearly id'd for a hit, it's wicked idea! ... eh random though, it's a tank, can we shoot it normally for fun?

Just embed RFID tags into the foam rockets, build a detector into the tank. Soon as the rocket gets within range, it's a hit. I suppose there'd be some logistical stuff to work out, but still it would work pretty good. (I'm still talking about getting a real actual tank... If you can afford to get the tank, you can afford to muck around and develop a perfect system.)
Edit: NM, 'logistical stuff' = an array of lots of really short range detectors all over the main hull of the tank, NP! Last edited by DrChi; October 4th, 2007 at 13:06.. |

That Prowler is awesome, like a badass golf-cart! Love to take that to play 18. "Mind if we play through?" <Sound of bolt racking on M249> "That answer your question Chippy?"
I'd love to build a fibreglass M113 for LZ Woodstock. Best would be to get an old minivan and build fiberglass frame around that. But that requires $$

Wouldn't RFID be simply to short range?

That Prowler is pretty sweet eh? But combine that roll cage with the Argo, now you've got something that's amphibious, and will carry around up to six people!
Surebet, the point of RFID is the short range, the shorter the better. Read: sensor arrays all over the outside of the actual (I mean real, actual, surplus) main battle tank's hull. The tighter the range, the better, you wouldn't want a near miss to set it off really. |

I still like the idea of doing it myself, would mean we don't have to overcome any problems with a base model we can just build it for what we need, hell we could even give it treads if we wanted to. When i do something, i normally go all out on it...problem is, we would have to train ppl to sue the damn thing lol

RFID readers 'usually' have a range of no more than 3" - the readers can be pricey too - ~$40 for single units

Slightly off topic but still pretty sweet
