Hm. If you insert an empty magazine, then rack the slide back, does it lock?

did you put in a stronger recoil spring and right after this started hapening? Also if you look at the mag you will see what pushes the slide catch back. Pull your slide off load in a mag and see if that little part is making contact with the catch. If no parts touch you probly need a new slide lock.

It has the same recoil spring it came with and when i take off the slide and load the mag in it makes contact and pushes the slide lock up

Im no expert but the only problem i could see is what was sugested before. The slide is blowing back far enough. So I guess you have to start looking at the blowback mechinism. Im definatly not much help....

So what could be stopping the slide from not blowing back all the way?

Not enough gas on each shot, or too strong a recoil spring. But if it's stock then the recoil spring should be fine. And we've already determined that it locks back when you rack the slide. So it must not be going all the way back due to not enough gas being expelled on each shot. That's my guess. Is this a new gun? Used gun?

could this be because of my mag?

Could be the valve, could be the gas hammer, or the hammer spring.
