The problem with realtree patterns and the like, are that they're designed with you staying in one spot in mind. They don't do all that well for cam when you start moving around a lot, but mostly, as you said, they're not "military cam patterns" so people don't want to use them...

The problem with hunters camo is it is typicaly too dark. past 100 yards and it is very visible. The newer generations of digital and multicam type camo work well up close and even better from a distance (if they have no black in them). Add black to them or have an overall too dark of a camo and you WILL stick out from distances past 100 yards. The past quarter of a century that I have spent hunting in the woods has given me plenty of time to look at camo in the field in different seasons and light conditions.
The nice thing about Multicam is it works well up close, and the farther you get from it the more effective it gets. ACU in some enviroments works spectacular up close and sucks in others, but the farther away you get from them, the better it works. That is why the ACU is good. |

I find one of the best bdu's out there is just OD, although plain it really does the trick, even in areas where multicam seems exel the most I've seen OD look just as good, even if multicam works well in mostly dead foliage if u stick it in an evergreen forest, hmm not so much, but OD still keeps up, even in a really dry almost desert place just let OD get a little dusty and it still performs. Combats don't have to be complicated to be great,
conclusion: multicam is like any other camo, extremely good in some places terrible in others :borg: |

Cheapest place I've seen it (still pricy as it is but cheaper than others) is at Dave's surplus, $120CDN shirt and pants. Then again, SEALS has the pants for $120 as well, but the shirt is $90. Unless I got the two mixed up.

For those like me who are searching for a MultiCam substitute, either because you can't afford Multicam, or whatever, should look at the desert version of "Cypriot camouflage" as it does have that overall "mud-smear" look just like Multicam, and would likely be almost as effective in some areas. Missing are a few of the colors however like the bright white sections of the camo for instance. Seen in the following links are a jacket, shirt, and hat.

Anyway, it will still work better than woodland *or* 3-color desert in many areas around here, thank you very much. |

http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme%20gea...ield_pants.htm My original point however is that from much research and searching, and perhaps for informational purposes only, the new "Cypriot desert camouflage" comes the closest to looking like real Multicam. Now, if you can find something else that comes closer to looking like Multicam then please, tell us... |

The best camouflage is still keeping your mouth shut in the forest!
