Well, at least it sounds like they're making a distinction between BB guns and airsoft, and pointing out the BB guns are the main problem. It's (marginally) better than the typical "all replica guns are teh evilz" speal.

Either these guys are accomplices to this charade, or they are idiots too stupid to see through it. Either way they shouldn't be carrying a badge. Who are they trying to fool? No-one can possibly believe that if a gun is drawn on them they're going to check if it's airsoft.
Fuck it, our country is full of assholes and idiots beyond repair now. If it's acceptable for a government media outlet to make an argument of confiscating private property for no reason other than government expedience, your country isn't free. |

I'm in the process of setting up a meeting with the local police chief and a select few officers to see what their point of view is on the subject. If they out-right ban airsoft, I'm out of this country.
I raged at an American last week in another forum for saying Canadians are a bunch of pussies, telling him that it's the Canadian Governmet that's pussies. If the government bans airsoft, this will just justify my statement. We're turning into a country of cowards because a few morons go out and spoil what we love for the rest of us. |

OK lets not
Turn this into yet another..
"oh no they are going to ban airsoft" or.. "the government is stupid" thread if anything the police are more interested in seeing a ban of realistic looking pellet guns sold as imitation guns in major retail outlets with minimal oversight to age restriction. Practically none of us get our guns through "traditional retail" outlets

What does this program have to do with "the Marketplace"? I thought it (Marketplace) was a program about consumer issues. Are people unhappy at being robbed by a toy gun, when they are expecting the guns to be real?
Where is this a consumer issue? It's just more left wing anti gun propaganda.

I am optimistic that it won't be banned, but I'll bet they'll make it a lot harder to obtain an airsoft. They should do here what they did in the UK. You can have your replica gun, provided you have a permit. I'm totally fine with that. If you don't have a permit, you can still have your gun provided you're 18, but it'll be bright green in color (at least that's what I've been told by a few friends from over there). I just hope they didn't completely screw you when they edited your interview. I'm just getting in to this, and I'd like to be able to enjoy it for a few years. |

There are lots of laws on the books to govern the illegal use of imitation guns.. I expect the government would move on additional firearms regulations first .. such as the much shouted " ban handguns" call. The current federal government has an ocean of fish way bigger to fry before they even consider gun legislaton.. and I'd expect the current government to actualy reduce restriction by dumping the gun registry .. rather than waste time with a ban that will do nothing.

Actually, come to think of it, the fiasco with the gun registry could prove to be of some advantage with any future gun legislation. They may decide to give it more thought and research that's likely to get results, since the public isn't likely to stand for another $2 billion waist of money that does absolutly nothing.

What doesn't make sense to me is that if their idea of banning replica handguns actually worked and criminals literally couldn't get them anymore, then they would just turn to real guns. Then we would have more real guns being used in crimes, and more people dying. I would rather see slightly more crime with fewer deaths, myself.

Please Read It All, So you can stop freaking out
Most of you guys understand the actual topic of that episode and some of you are just turning it upside down. For one thing that is clear this is mainly about Pellet Guns. Are you guys even reading Brian's post? It is true Pellet Guns are much more easy to obtain and some of them do not need a permit. Airsoft importation is already tightly regulated you think the RCMP doesn't have a profile on ASC members here? Look what happened to Will Wong from Specarms Airsoft and Ken from 007 as well the whole 2005 Debacle of Peter Kang. Those who have been through the worst times are still here. Games are still going on, people are still playing. The main focus is PELLET GUNS! For example the ones you can buy at www.lebaron.ca http://www.lebaron.ca/pdf_files_fall...er_beretta.pdf They mean retail outlets such as the above. They are not talking about the things that go on ASC. To get Pellet guns some of them do no need a permit while some do, but you can just pick the non-permit ones if you are of age. And Pellet guns are not heavily regulated and are easily accessible. Airsoft is not easily accessible and there are no such official retail outlets. So now why are you all going crazy about that? We don't have Pellet gun games here. And generally if Airsoft was so tightly regulated they would have even banned the clear guns. Yes the RCMP know all about the clear body airsoft guns and yes authorities do monitor ASC. RCMP is not stupid they know about Airsoft. If Airsoft was deemed unfit for Canada it would have been gone a long time ago. Touching on Brian's point, he is right I to don't see how a couple media pieces are going to change the whole Airsoft world. There were media pieces on Airsoft in the past. But this one is focusing on Pellet guns not Airsoft. So there is no need to leave the country or go in a bomb shell or cry Doomsday. If you want to know what was more close to Doomsday read this http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=9698 In 2005 people thought Airsoft was going to end. My call to action is please stop getting all riled up. Relax, watch the episode and go send in any complaints or comments to CBC. No need to create an angry mob for no reason Last edited by cbcsteve; February 27th, 2009 at 18:04.. |

I read this guys post
"In public, all guns should be treated as real ones! Just imagine for one second, you are in a restaurant and the guy at the next table takes a (fake) gun out of his pocket and point it at you... there is a cop in the restaurant, and he says "no worries fellas, it's a fake gun", then he leaves the spot.... If someone is stupid enough to use a fake gun in public, they should face all the consequences as if it was a real gun! Ah, and if you want to play with cops with real/fake things, try to hide some flour in small plastic bags next time you take an airplane... cops will see the joke coming from miles away! it's hilarious." thought it was quite funny : > |
