dry-firing>>why is it bad?

I guess the title sums up my question. I want to know why dry-firing is bad for an aeg. It does the same thing as it would if it were loaded with BBs. So, why/how does not having BBs in it damage the gun?

Because there's no back pressure to resist the piston head from slamming forward in to the front of the mechbox at full strength.

So in that sense, no, it does NOT do the same thing as when a BB is in the chamber. The BB does provide some back pressure.

If you MUST dry fire for the fun of it, do it with the muzzle cap on. It's designed to simulate the back pressure a BB would provide.
