Lithium Ion is much more stable than Lipo but more limited in power output. Discussed here:

It's funny more people receive burns and shocks from misconnecting their booster cables to a car battery, then people get burns from Lipo's so how is a Lipo the most dangerous?

Oh, man, that things gonna blow your head off.

I would only use a LiPo if I could reasonably guarantee it will stay intact in my gun and my rig. So for now, it's a no-go for me.
